PP with the long post. My comment about teacher turnover is just based on my kids’ experience there. It is my impression only. Some of the regular teachers have been there forever. Only a few of the immersion teachers are long timers. An AP once told me it’s hard to find legit native speakers who are also certified MCPS teachers. And they have to be willing to still do MCPS curriculum, just in Spanish- there’s no “immersion curriculum”. So I think it’s maybe a hard job? Still worth it, I hope that comes across in my post. You wind up with kids who speak another language without any special enrichment!
One of my kids goes to RCF. Turnover at my other kid’s school is much higher, so all this is anecdotal. Am sure you can try to find actual data somewhere. I don’t see anything nefarious going on at RCF if that’s what the wide-eyed Sligo PP is getting at. Great school, great program, and we feel very blessed at how fluent in Spanish my kid is.
I wasn’t suggesting anything nefarious. I was simply surprised PP had said that about turnover because my impression was that these immersion teaching spots are were (as it goes at MCPS anyway) generally good gigs.
