RCF immersion

Can someone tell me how many seats are available for Spanish immersion at RCF and how many usually apply? Thanks!

Check out the Choice Study. It's something like 44 seats, of which half or more go to siblings.

You can call the language immersion office to get exact numbers. There are 2 kindergarten classes, each with 25 kids. However, at RCF nearly half the spots have gone to siblings in recent years.

Hundreds apply. Our waitlist number was 281 this past year.

26 kids each class, but yes 1/3-1/2 are siblings. And ~300 apply. We were 175 on the waitlist, but I know of people who were well into the 200s. Generally, the waitlist gets into the low to mid teens before the classes actually fill (through fall of the school year) as people decide the location or the program are not the right choice for them.

You should apply (so MCPS knows demand greatly excess supply), but it highly unlikely. Slots go to siblings, so it reduces the actual lottery rate.

Does anyone know how the waitlist moves in higher grades? 1st grade and up?

Last year there was no movement on the waiting list for First Grade. After that you need to be able to show enough language proficiency to get in.

Yes, we will have to test, but we would be okay with that. One parent is a native speaker. Was there any movement for 2nd grade? Does anyone know? 🙏🏼

This is PP. I meant, was there any movement for 2nd grade LAST YEAR?

Does waitlist move much after Q1 for K? How about for 3-5th grades?

Not sure if there is discussion on this more recent link about the waitlist:
