If you are in DC, stick with Oyster. Do not move to Montgomery County for a Spanish immersion school. Advice from a friend who did just that and is regretting the decision.

Your friend must have either gone to a two-way immersion school or didn’t get selected in the lottery. No one would regret going to RCF immersion.

To the OP—to get into RCF immersion, it’s a lottery, so to move to moco to be in a lottery is pretty high stakes betting imo.

OP didn’t say she lives in DC. She asked how the program compares to the DC programs.

There is no continued immersion in high school. For kids who continued at Westland, some just finish out Spanish with Spanish 4 and then AP Spanish Literature. Others start a new language and go through WL 4. Depends on the kid and their interests.

How is the counselor at this school? We have to ask a few Qs around social pairings and want to get the counselor's feedback. We may ask Principal if they are the ones making class groups. New to county.

Does this school have before and after clubs? Or before and after care company on site? Or do students get bussed to another facility if no vendor on site to provide before and after care services?

Because RCF admission is unlikely. Living in-bounds provides no help in a county-wide lottery that has thousands more students than spots.

Ms. Gillis is leaving. I’m not sure if they have a replacement yet. Ms. Cohen is the other counselor who is still there.

Sarah Cohen is wonderful. Mrs Gillis was also wonderful & the two of them together were amazing.

They will hire a second counselor to replace Ms Gillis.
