During a panel, DC residents voiced their frustrations and demanded accountability from city leaders in addressing the violent crime epidemic that's plaguing our nation’s capital.

DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s response: “We cannot prosecute and arrest our way out of it.”

Wow. What a nutjob

Prosecuting and imprisoning people hasn't ended crime. It's time to try something else.

Yes it does. You clearly don't remember NYC back in the 80s and 90s when it used to have 3000+ murders per year and it looked like bombed out Iraq.

Times Square used to be an S hole. They cracked down hard on crime arresting tons of people even for small stuff. Everything massively improved.

Awww look at you thinking completely ending crime is an achievable goal. News flash, all these BS “wrap around services” don’t do sh!t when the people they are meant for don’t want to meaningfully participate. So yes, prosecution and incarceration are much more effective because it removes these people from society and eliminates their ability to victimize others.

And, because of progressive policies, they are heading back to being a S hole.

False. It’s pretty clear that part of what is happening in DC is organized crime where juveniles are exploited by adults to steal cars and jackets.

This is actually false. Most of the juvenile carjackings and robberies have nothing to do with organized crime.

If that’s his attitude, he should resign tomorrow.

Yes, he should. But we all know he will not resign.

He is a progressive.

He has the backing of the progressive city council and the progressive mayor.

If you live in D.C., you have to ask yourself:

- who voted in all these progressive politicians? And why are you going to re-elect them during the next election?

PP is probably one of those a$$holes that loves to say “teach your boys to not rape!” Yeah. Like that’s gonna work.
People are going to rape, steal, carjack and commit crimes no matter what. These people are broken. Unfixable.

Excellent point, PP

"There is nothing progressive about allowing violent criminals to rampage through marginalized communities with impunity."

Schwab and that PP clearly get their talking points from the same source, interesting. And totes organic.

“A war on crime.” Is that seriously how you see this? OMFG are you dumb.

You must have skipped the year they covered history in school. Crime has always existed. It always will.

Your idea that we will somehow “cure crime” is frankly, idiotic.

Who on earth said ending crime is a plausible goal? Prosecution and imprisonment aren't methods to end crime, they're methods meant to hold people accountable for when or if they commit a crime.

Your goal is a false hope and dream. You need to learn more about human behavior.

We need to provide these citizens with the wrap-around services they need, so they don't need to resort to a life of crime to survive. The failure is on society for not providing these marginalized citizens a way forward.

Should they be provided with transportation to nicer neighborhoods to rampage though?

We have Vision Zero. I don't see why we can't extend that crime. Crime only exists because society has subjectively determined that some activities are illegal or immoral.

But it's not going to happen bc DC gov is captured by extreme left. These people have infiltrated every nook and cranny of council, anc's etc. A lot of them dont want prisons. They are tearing down institution after institution. Only way out is fed takeover and feds do what NY did. DC gov has made the deliberate decision to stop protecting the physical safety of its citizens.

Many literally do want to end incarceration completely.

Schwab is a lying fraud. In his campaign commercials he promised, "I'm gonna get after" juvenile crime. Folksy poor grammar aside, clearly installed by is former Venable partner to continue Racine's legacy. Remember when HE claimed that RJ was appropriate for MURDER? How is the victim going to meaningly participate? Medium? Ouija board?!!! Now Arlington and MoCo have adopted similar policies and second look legislation re: juveniles. In the 90s moving to either upped safety significantly. Now, whole region is markedly less safe due to these policies and prosecutors who see their job as social workers. Not to mention all the judges who still see themselves as public defenders.

https://www.fox5dc.com/news/dc-attorney-general-wants-restorative-justice-for-all-juvenile-cases-even-murder

We are all rolling the dice on borrowed time re: our safety and that of our families. Any one of us can be killed when we hand over car keys, shot in the head on K Street picking up a loved one or paralyzed driving in Dupont in broad daylight. What exactly will have made it worth it?

The people in charge DON'T care about the soaring body count of black men and children. And they don't care about YOU either. In fact, they want to do MORE OF THE SAME.

Are they eugenicists? Seriously wonder WHO is funding DC Justice Lab and to what end. That they literally wrote 4 pieces of legislation and the talking points for the Council and still get away with murky funding is shocking, especially in the nation's capital. The Sentencing Project will soon have 2 representatives on the Sentencing Commission. One a cold blooded killer with NO relevant expertise. The Council are just fronting puppets at this point.

Because of they way the city is being run we are just waiting out until our youngest finishes High School to sell. Many families I know feel the same way. We can work remote no need to stay in DC. DC will loose it tax base and be a S hole. Maybe then some DC residents will get what they wanted a small Federal city in the center of downtown(so it will be safe for tourist, international relations and the federal gov't) and the rest will be its own state. One that the federal gov't doesn't have to be embarrassed about.
