During a panel, DC residents voiced their frustrations and demanded accountability from city leaders in addressing the violent crime epidemic that's plaguing our nation’s capital.

DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s response: “We cannot prosecute and arrest our way out of it.”

Wow. What a nutjob

If that’s his attitude, he should resign tomorrow.

Sadly funny.

Prosecuting and imprisoning people hasn't ended crime. It's time to try something else.

Stunning piece of public forum.

The grand takeaway is that Politicians are Politicians but "so what"? Where are the services and Case Managers that our appointed reps are always talking about.

If a "young person" is "no papered" we can be made to understand that non emotionally. However, why are there now no services available for that person UNTIL an actual crime is charged and the youth goes to jail. Why is the current system set up by our City Council ONLY address the problem once it hits the news or the person is convicted and released.

My take away, stop complaining about the Attorney General. Stop complaining about the US Attorney. Stop complaining about the crime lab.

The DC youth crime problem rests SOLELY on our ELECTED CITY COUNCIL and their inability to actually create wrap around city services and HIRE case managers at a FRACTION of the cost of post crime hand wringing and "what about'isms"

What evidence is there that wrap around services work at all?

Huh? We haven’t tried it at all. We aren’t prosecuting and imprisoning even less. You are basing this on the rest of the US. In DC we’ve tried only the “something else”.

The “something else” is just lining the pockets of semi-educated “consultants” and “service providers” who sprung up overnight. The last time people were in fact being prosecuted fairly we had some peace.

NO amount of intervening and govt spending will save those people despite what liberals think. They are far too gone. Those human pieces of S then have kids who turn into the same trash, and the cycle repeats over and over again. Unfortunately, we can't require licenses for having kids. We can't make parents parent. The only thing we can do is mass incarcerate to make society safe for law abiding citizens.

I'm sorry reality hurts the senses of liberals. We can only live in the world as it is, not as we want it to be.

You do understand that you are potentially taking the risk of locking up the next Einstein. Are you willing to take that risk? I'm not.

Lol. It’s a pretty low risk, I’ll take the chance.

False. It’s pretty clear that part of what is happening in DC is organized crime where juveniles are exploited by adults to steal cars and jackets.

Agreed. WTF. We have been addressing 'root causes of poverty' for 50+ years. We can keep addressing that, god knows we have enough government workers and non profits and taxes funneled there. But we also have a crime crisis NOW and these folks were hired/elected for that, not be social workers.

If Isis were in DC picking off hard-working, law-abiding residents we wouldn't tolerate it. But because it's locals doing it, it's "fine"?

What are you talking about? We haven't tried that at all. Time to start trying the method of prosecution and jail in DC.
