I thought he already did that? |
Yup, their top performing employees will look to move over to the feds if they want to continue with the government. For years DC govt was pretty commensurate with the feds pay wise, and was generally lower stress so there wasn’t a pressing need to try and go fed, but this certainly changes that calculus. 4 days a week in the office is not happening with the feds. |
Humming along? There’re not enough DC employees to do that. As for their morale, who cares? |
No, Zients put out a memo to do that. Fortunately, he has no authority over the federal workforce and was simply blown off. WFH for feds is here to stay. |
Smart people don't make these mistakes. You sound like Ackman trying to defend plagiarizing Neri. |
So uh, asking for a friend.. anyone have any idea when the COLA for non union employees is coming? |
Maybe he was trying to drum up office crowd to patronize his bagel store. |
DC citizens, who are going to lose a lot of great public servants who don’t appreciate not only getting scraps in COLA while inflation has been out of control for the past few years but being told they have to show up an extra day a week in person just to serve as ATMs for business owners who make a lot more money than them. |
DC government salaries are quite high, actually, given their qualifications. https://dchr.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/dchr/publication/attachments/public_body_employee_information_211231.pdf |
Like a PP said, DC government generally has been pretty comparable to the feds in terms of pay and that was because in a city so saturated with fed jobs the DC government wouldn’t otherwise be able to attract interest from qualified job seekers. Bowser is tossing that out the window. What prospective employee would look at DC government over the feds right now with a 4 day a week in office mandate and no COLA, that’s right, the ones with less than stellar qualifications. |
| If DC government wants people to come back into town then they need to do A WHOLE LOT MORE about the out-of-control carjackings, armed robberies, and the dangerous drivers. People just don't feel safe. Mayor, MPD, Council, AGs, Judges and everyone else all need to step up and accept this reality and realize they need to make changes. |
If DC did all those things it’s still not going to bring back the commuting workers required for economic recovery. WFH is a complete and total positive for organizations, workers, and families. The DC directive to its employees to return is nothing more than a desperate and cynical attempt to prod the feds and private orgs to bring back their people which of course will fail. Also, the majority of these workers live outside of DC and could care less about the city’s looming economic crisis. |
Why I don't want to have to be in the office as much as I had to be before 2020: I'm more productive with work and home responsibilities working from home NOT I don't want to have to be in the office as much as I had to be before 2020: carjackings, armed robberies, dangerous drivers I like DC. I feel safe in DC. Regularly commuting to DC is a waste of time. |
I agree. I feel safe. I am now with the feds where I am mostly remote but would still look at DC opportunities even with a 3-day a week requirement. Not a four day one - that's more than what was required pre-pandemic. Absolutely nuts. |

Work from home will gradually go away in most sectors. Not going back to 5 day weeks but 3 or 4 days will be the norm.
Only way America’s economy stays strong. |
