Dating across the political aisle

This is the only sane comment (and relationship) in the whole thread.

Not really. Because it depends on the nature of the differences. If we're haggling over the proper marginal tax rates, then sure. If we're arguing over whether a woman is a full human being entitled to bodily autonomy, then not so much. And, from the flip side, if you're one of those people who believes that a zygote has a soul and is just as morally important as a fully formed human; then abortion is murder, and I don't see how you could just let it slide and be married to someone who supports the slaughter of millions of innocent souls.

1) When exactly does womanhood begin?

2) Can you go to your doctor tomorrow and ask for your head to be chopped off?

They are not only very progressive, but very opinionated about it to the point of hatred toward you if you simply hold a different point of view. I can live with someone who has a different opinion than me on many issues as long as we agree to respect each others opinions. And women are absolutely free to have their opinions and they are absolutely free to avoid those who don’t agree with those opinions. Personally I just tend to avoid people like that and if they avoid me that’s fine as well. We are a divided country and will remain so for a long time I think.

I will tell you this, if you honestly tell any woman you are dating that you are a Republican, the women you have access to will shrink by 95% in the Northeast. I wonder if some men are lying to their dates in fear of rejections if they don’t vote Democrat.

+1. Women have rejected their own fathers, siblings, best friends over political differences so rejecting a date will be even easier. I do not understand federal Republics very well to be honest. My African country is a so called “democracy” on paper, but abortion is legal and free. In the United States the biggest democracy, in some states women don’t have access to this important healthcare service. Maybe that’s how democracy works in a Federal Republic I am not sure to be honest.

False after the baby is already viable.

Or, name the country and we can find the law.

Hey imbecile free and legal abortion does not mean snorting a baby from a 9 months pregnant woman. I can’t believe I even need to explain this to your dumb ass.

Can you make the bolded into an actual sentence so we might know what the hell you are trying to say?

As clearly bolded within the previous comment, I was reacting to "abortion is legal and free" in some unknown African country. As far as I know, in literally no country other than a totalitarian society, is third trimester abortion a legal thing.

But the post about the African country doesn't mention the third trimester.

Exactly, which is something quite relevant to clarify.

Good luck discussing logic with American loonies. Wait until they realize no one in Europe or Asia or anywhere agrees with their extremist abortion beliefs.

In some ways Roe stunted the abortion debate in the US. We went from having fewer restrictions on abortion than just about every other country in the world to states with more restrictions than just about any country in the world. Something like France, 14 weeks but later if medically necessary could have been a position that people could have gotten behind, but Roe led to abortion supporters insisting the full limits of the constitution should be the only restriction and opponents insisting no abortion was every ok.

"Abortion is now permitted in Benin if the pregnancy is “likely to aggravate or cause a situation of material, educational, professional or moral distress incompatible with the interests of the woman and/or the unborn child”. Abortions can be carried out up to 12 weeks after the absence of a period"

Sorry, but that's considered deep MAGA territory by many in this thread.

+1

We had 50 years to pass a reasonable federal law.

As soon as the people opposing reproductive rights settled on the idea that, from the moment of conception, fetal life had the same moral value as a human; there could be no compromise. With that as your starting point, you can't agree to abortion up to 14 weeks any more than you could agree to allow people to randomly slaughter classrooms full of kindergarteners.

False. The problem was when some extremists under the "my body my choice" dogma wanted full abortion rights well beyond viability, into the third trimester. Which no developed country allows for obvious reasons.

Which brings it back to the question of whether a romantic couple can compromise on politics. If a potential partner prefers a flat tax, you can probably still focus on their good qualities even if you think that is a regressive policy. On the other hand, if a potential romantic partner supports the slaughter of school children, that's pretty tough to overlook no matter how often he gives you flowers.
