Nobody is saying that there are no dorms with AC at these schools. But they all have one or more dorms that don't. https://housing.vt.edu/CGS/accommodations.html

Nothing wrong with social mobility. You just want rich people going to college? |
100% |
Where did you see that? The OP asked what happened to W&M rankings and I explained these rankings had drastically changed to focus on social mobility; W&M didn’t change. |
Met a VT student this fall who was extremely congested, complaining of mold in her dorm, and saying she and all of her roommates were sick from the mold. The lack of AC in colleges in Virginia is an issue. |
State could easily fix that if they funded these schools more so they didn't have to pick between adding AC or funding education. P3 route seems to be the only good option rn to updating housing on limited funds. |
We live in MD my kid loved W & M and it was his first choice. He received 1/2 BK scholarship to UMD ($17K COA) no merit aid to W&M (about 58K OOS COA). The kid understood and went to UMD. it was the right choice. |
West AJ was not air-conditioned when I was there as a Freshmen ![]() |
I agree - same experience at both W&M and UVA. |
Thomas Jefferson’s school (the one he graduated from, not the one he founded) is doing just fine. |
Dropping 2 spots is just statistical noise. Not a real drop. |
UVA actually went up by one spot; however, I agree with you. |
None of the changes are real drops or increases for any of the schools. If you change the metrics on which you are evaluating the schools - I.e. the inputs - the results are going to change. Essentially, it’s a different survey. I looked it over pretty closely in terms of the metrics and it really no longer focuses on things that are a particular priority as I help my kids evaluate schools. Not that being accessible and having students with Pell grants isn’t good - it is - it’s just not how my kids are picking schools. I’m concerned about things like class size and access to advising. I don’t know why some random publication is given so much credence in determining school reputation. Do you really think Ohio State is “better” than W&M whatever “better” even means? I actually don’t think one is even necessarily “better”? It’s really a question of what the student is seeking and where they will most likely be happy and successful. For my DC W&M is going to be a much better fit than Ohio State. I’m not letting USNWR do our thinking for us. |
Nothing. Still a 2nd tier state school with mediocre CS/Engineering. |
Nothing has chan, still a great university that offers an incredible education at a decent price point. Not a school for everyone but as rising application numbers demonstrate many more students want to attend that the school can admit.
Not a school for those who aren’t willing to work hard to do well. |
