This change makes the ratings more valuable
To the vast majority of families who care about total cost. Not so much if you’re comfortably full pay.

UVA’s ranking did not drop in the new rankings, and while W&M’s did it had been slowly dropping for the last several years.

In other words, you’re wrong.

UVA dropped two spots from last year. W&M's drop this year was comparable to its peer Wake Forest's ranking drop.

UVA was ranked 24th both years. You’re wrong.

We experienced the same thing! “Insufferable” is exactly the right word. So many precious snowflakes there, and most seemed like the typical annoying theater kids. DS immediately took it off his list.

? my DC is a theater kid and is pretty laid back. Never knew theater kids had this kind of stereotype.

NP. Come on. This is a legitimate stereotype. Have you worked backstage at a children’s theatre or high school theatre production? Theatre kids definitely fit the annoying and quirky stereotype. Perhaps your theatre kid doesn’t have siblings that you can compare them to? I have a theatre kid (and non-theatre kids) and it is almost comical how the theatre kids almost all fit a specific stereotype. There are TV shows and movies which highlight this stereotype. Funny thing, the 2 kids I know that attend and love W&M were both big time musical theatre kids.

Can we stop labeling all the students there quirky? Besides the fact that it is not true, you as a grown a** adult really should not be name-calling teenagers/young 20 year olds lol

NP here, I'm ok with quirky, some of us view it as a positive. W&M is insanely popular at my kids' Nova public, seemingly more so that UVA.

Very familiar with the theater type. Quirky? You bet. Annoying? Not to me, clearly to you. But that's a YOU problem.

The same at UVA. One parent asked if they could bring a 'hot plate' to the dorms. WTF?? How is that a valid question to be wasting everyone's time asking? If they say 'no', will they not apply? And- let's get accepted and commit before we discuss the nitty gritty.

Oh lord, a hot plate! You made my day with that,

Well? Can you bring a hot plate to the dorm? Don’t leave me hanging.

Quirky is being used an insult though, and it also just honestly creates a stigma. There are all types of kids at W&M and every one of them is welcome.

My academically-focused, sports-loving, non-theater kid absolutely loves William and Mary.

And parents and kids need to realize that USNWR rankings have changed and don’t focus on academics or instruction anymore.

My first thought was “are these still a thing in 2023”, but I think that’s when we got up and left. I would have strangled someone if I stayed a minute longer. Lol

Maybe u can submit is a question on one of the live Q&As

Yeah. My son too. His uncle played soccer there and loved it. My son also really liked the school.

Fwiw- it’s also changed a lot since the 80s/90s. People carry a weird stereotype which is far from the real campus.

That's funny. I had the opposite experience. The UVA crowd was awful. So many strivers and annoying hyper snowflake parents--pushy and asking ridiculous questions like the 'hot plate' pp. Also- the brown-nosing of the panel. OMG.

PP here - we didn't care for the UVA crowd either, though for different reasons. Yes, lots of brown-nosing.

Jon Stewart (the daily show) is an alum and was on W&M’s men’s soccer team.

With former heads of FBI, CIA, sec of Defense, etc., it’s weird that pp fixated on an untrue ‘theater” thing.

Really? You've never been in say, an airport, or on a plane with a group of theater kids on a school trip? They talk extremely loudly, as if everyone simply must hear what they're saying, and they break into showtunes every few minutes. Absolutely cringeworthy.
