It really is quite rude to comment on a person's weight. Even if it's meant to be complimentary. You can always bring it up yourself.

This is really individual. Some think it’s rude, others are delighted. Take your cue from how easy-going people are in other areas of their life.

No - it is rude, period. Yes you can get away with it in some cases but you are still being rude.

Newsflash: you are not the final authority on what is rude or not.

Amen! I was thrilled when someone noticed my weight loss. I worked hard! It wasn’t rude at all. Not for those of us without sticks up out a$$es, at least.

This post was timely for me because I've recently lost about 35 pounds, and very few people have commented. I am a bit disappointed that only a few people have mentioned it, but then I tell myself that maybe they didn't realize how large I had gotten.

Or, they thought you would for some stupid reason, take offense at their mentioning it!

Imagine being such a jerk about someone complimenting you.

"You lost weight" isn't a compliment.

Is "You look great" better? It's still most likely a compliment based on weight loss.

The initial comments to me were fine. My weight loss was well before the current drugs, so I can imagine the assumptions if I did it now. The never ending ongoing comments about being a monk and not eating - which is not true - gets exhausting. If people want to project, let them and ignore it. I’ve had to do that.

Jeez Louise. yes, "You look great" is a compliment. Some of you people really need therapy.

OP if you lost significant weight then it's only natural that some/many people will comment, and usually there's no malintent. You're not going to change how most of the population responds to a significant change in your outward appearance, especially when it comes to weight because is where most people struggle. Either ignore it, stop being offended by it, or keep being offended by it which really only makes you a more angry person.

You're damned if you do, damned if you don't

So it's better to just don't. These folks that want the compliments, do you want the same people to compliment you if you gain weight?

PP. I reply "thanks" if someone says that to me. I don't elaborate on my weight loss though. I prefer not to talk about that.

No, bc that would be disingenuous. I look worse when I gain weight so it wouldn’t really be a compliment.

I really wish people wouldn’t mention it at all.

I would LOVE for the whole thing to be completely private. But there’s no way for me to keep you from noticing. It’s too much weight to hide with clothes and also I don’t want to wear a tent. That doesn’t mean I want to talk about it.

If I want to talk about it with you I will bring it up! Seriously! If you think I need an in, just say “you look great” and if I want to talk about it, I will! But probably I’ll say “thanks so do you!” and quickly move on. This is NOT a prompt for you to say “seriously it looks like you’ve lost a lot of weight.”

If my MIL can manage this, everyone can. She used to comment every time she saw me (to my face if thinner and to everyone else if heavier) and now she never does, and it makes me so much more relaxed about visiting with her.

So anyway PSA/pleading if you haven’t made this shift.

They are wondering if you will volunteer that you are taking Ozempic.

So what? Seriously? Why do people care HOW someone is losing weight? Can't you just leave people alone????

Skinny people get jealous when their fat friends lose weight. They're so used to being the hot, skinny friend, that they FREAK OUT when they realize that OMG they're going to have competition or something from their formerly fat friend. Lady, I didn't lose weight to somehow compete with you over who is the skinniest and best looking, I did FOR MY HEALTH. Get over yourselves, not everything is all about you.
