no, mass school shootings weren't a thing in the 70s, 80s. I was born in 1970. We didn't have any shooter drills like my kids do today. It's awful for them. They had to go on a real lockdown once, and my DD and her friends were so scared and cried. I f*n hate it. I hate the gun nutters and amosexuals. I don't like the uber progressives, but we all have to pick what's the most important thing to us. For many younger people who live in hcol, high taxes are probably hitting them hard. They aren't able to buy homes; they're saddled with student loan debts; childcare costs are through the roof. It's gotta be hard. IMO, that is probably what is driving some millennials more to the right. However, it's not hard right, especially when it comes to the right of a woman to control her own health, so some of you Rs are counting your chickens before they're hatched. -former R |
How is an abortion “health”? It’s just MOSTLY birth control. |
Honest question: how are Republicans going to help with affording first homes, paying off student debt, and paying for childcare? I’m not aware of any policies that they have related to those things and they shoot things down whenever Democrats propose them, like student loan forgiveness or subsidized child care. |
| Republicans exist to serve rich people. That takes all the mystery out of your question. |
You're not completely wrong (although you missed that Dems are screwing up at the national level too), but people have to choose D or R. Crime, restorative justice, and absurd school boards affect my family's daily lives a lot more than access to abortion. To date, the most harmful political event that my family has EVER experienced was the prolonged DCPS school closures. So I recently switched from a DC dem to move to another area where I'm now a republican. I'm pro-choice, but I'll just pay to travel if my daughter ever needs access to an abortion that we can't get where we live. |
Maybe it's just where you live. That makes a difference. |
I don’t believe a word of the above, but if I did , I’d remind you that all woman who can give birth are hurt by “pro life” legislation. That will occur to you as your daughter bleeds out and is denied healthcare. But you showed the school board! Take that libz! |
You know it's the truth or you wouldn't become so defensive and angry. It's not about "showing the school board." It's that Washington Teachers Union and their political supporters created an entire generation of public school children with trauma. Deal and Wilson/J-R used to be good, safe schools. After the ridiculous school closures for A YEAR AND A HALF, they had daily fights and learning was disrupted by constant behavior problems. They idiotic school leadership focused way too much on SJW stuff in lieu of a solid education. Our WOTP elementary has unprecedented levels of bullying and other behavior problems. So many kids with elevated anxiety, unusual even for this group. And that's the kids who go to school. Many of them dropped out and became career criminals due to school closures. It's about the WORST city council we've had in a very long time encouraging crime. The crazy progressives screaming people are racist for wanting open schools and lower crime. You can continue to enjoy crappy public schools and high crime. I'm out. |
Yes, those local issues affect your daily life more, but candidates for federal offices have little to no effect on those local issues at all. |
This is all true. But voting for Trump or DeSantis doesn't fix anything. Progressive city councils and DAs need to be voted out of office. And they need to be replaced with sensible democrats who aren't scared to send violent criminals to prison. Who aren't scared to reimpose some discipline in schools, including expulsions of problematic students. Who aren't scared of supporting the police in what is a very difficult job. It shouldn't be a race issue. Everyone wants safe neighborhoods and good schools. But it's up to the voters. If they keep voting for progressives, more people will leave cities that are already troubled. And it breathes life into a republican party that is dangerous for the country. 2024 should be a slam dunk for democrats, particularly since this will be the first election since Roe was overturned. But if republicans have success, it is entirely the fault of the Charles Allens of the world and the DAs that refuse to prosecute violent criminals and the school boards that failed a generation of students. |
You’re a great example of why young people aren’t becoming Republican as they age. |
Experts expected an increase in aggression and violence after the pandemic. I recall hearing a former DHS employee that had left and moved to Texas. As soon as the pandemic hit, they rehired her to deal with the expected increase in domestic terrorism. You can continue to blame the school board if you’d like, but it isn’t that simple. This link does a good job of explaining why it happens: https://news.northwestern.edu/stories/2021/06/why-is-violent-behavior-spiking-as-pandemic-ebbs/?fj=1 |
Definitely true in my own personal experience and that of friends and family. I was a liberal through college and early 20s. Never again. |
| I’ve said this in other threads many times. It’s not people moving from left to right because suddenly they don’t want to pay taxes. It’s apolitical nonvoting people who were always somewhat conservative, now aging into voting. Anecdotal, but from my experience everyone I knew in high school and college who voted or was into politics was liberal or left-leaning. None of these people became Republicans. The people who used to say “i hate politics” or “politics is boring” are now voting Republican. The reason is that growing up, they were privileged enough to not care about government or policy and were always fine with the status quo. |
BS. It was the school closures. Enough with the progressive gaslighting. |
