The crazy part of this for me is that he knew the boyfriend had seen him. He could have just moved on and found another victim, or at least gotten a new burner phone. It’s because of his carelessness that they finally got him. Thankfully.

The even crazier part is that the Suffolk police have had the information on the vehicle for almost 15 years and sat on it.

If they had put out a public call to located a Chevy Avalanche + 6’5” large white male with shaggy hair & ogre-like appearance, I bet 10 of Heuermann’s neighbors would’ve ID’d him.

The cops didn’t even need all the fancy software for cell phone pings or mitochondrial DNA. They were sitting on the key piece of evidence for over a decade.

Since they were monitoring his online activity, they knew he was closely following the investigation and were worried he would get wind and flee. His wife is from Iceland which made him an even greater flight risk.

Forgot to circle back to my point, which is that I'm sure they would have ideally arrested him in Suffolk County but had to move on it quickly.

not really. that is a broad description. the FBI also added that he was most likely middle-aged and white. 99.9% of serial killers are male and the others are fairly normal for LI.
