Interesting take! I like Bob Kolker and highly dislike the voyeristic tone of so much true crime, and he did a great job of focusing on the victims, but the organization of the book made it almost unreadable. Really glad police caught this guy. |
CA did, not so much now. In the 60s and 70s the free love movement attracted predators who moved there to benefit from easy access to young women without consequence. There's a study somewhere on it, I don't have a link. |
The NYT has an article on why it took so long to catch him. There was a lot of corruption in the police force, which led to them cutting the FBI out of the case for a long time. |
