Rs are terminally out of touch with normal people

Glenn Greenwald (I know, I know) recently did a thread about the same concept with respect to the media.

Glenn Greenwald is absolutely right. Not sure what your silly apologist remark is for.

Eh, Greenwald has been wrong often enough that it’s worth flagging.

But I think he is spot-on here. I’ve never in my life perceived such a mismatch between the mainstream media and what ordinary Americans think. The gap is tremendously vast at this point.

It is a self-inflicted wound in any event. When you see histrionics like the below from previously respected media sources, it’s hard to take them seriously. I mean Vanity Fair just looks objectively ridiculous here.

Vanity Fair has been going off the rails for some time now.
This headline could have actually been written by some of the DCUMers here.

I have to say, there's a lot I hate about Republicans - and their scary, apocalyptic "promises" about what's coming is up there at the top of what I hate most. But it's a big top. Very top-heavy.

Isn't it the Democrats who have been talking about their apocalyptic "promises" concerning climate change? Al Gore said many of the world's coastal cities would be inundated by sea level rise by 2023. Of course, he said that while owing a Tennessee mansion with three people living in it that consumed more power than a small town. Liberal hypocrite.

yes and humans did a lot in the intervening 30 years to help mitigate so instead of 2023 it is now more like 2050, but there is still more to do to try to prepare while also mitigating. Thanks for making the point that we CAN do something about it.

Also in one case we're trying to avoid the catastrophic existential threat - climate change

While in the other, the Rs are positively giddy about a dictator. They know that saying this stuff is creepy, weird, and sort of scary to normies - but those R weirdos love it, themselves.

I guess they love the threat of climate change, too. They're lusting for it. They are such strange and off-putting people.

LOL! Dictator? Forcing people to get vaccinated or lose their jobs? Even when the vaccination is not proven to work?
Forcing schools to close by local Dem School Boards. And, the President supporting those SB and attacking those who criticize. Mandating that Trans women and girls be allowed in women sports? Contrary to public wishes.

Not to mention the effort to control what we drive, how we cook, what refrigerators and dishwashers we purchase, etc. etc. etc.

Republicans are hardly the dictators here. And, anyone who knows Jesse Kelly knows what he meant by the tweet.

If you have a car and can take time off work and don't have small children who need childcare.

Yet again confirmation of how out-of-touch cons are with the reality of people's lives. And completely heartless.

Or you can use the internet to find nonprofits which will happily transport you (for free) to wherever you need to go to take care of it.

If you have a computer, internet service, and the wherewithal to navigate searches for such entities that not only arrange and provide transportation but also negotiate with your employer to give you 4 days off without firing you and then also find free childcare for your toddler for those days you will be gone and finally also find you a clinic that will take you.
Yet again showing us how little you know or care about the reality of people’s lives. You seem to believe in magic.

So you’re talking about homeless people? (I think you’d be hard pressed to find an American with a job and no access to the Internet.) Don’t worry! Shelters and other outreach orgs can help!
I actually think you believe in magic. Do you believe in innately gendered soul that can’t be verified in any objective manner? Magic!

Keep it up. The more you reveal your disdain and dismissive attitude toward the real challenges people have the easier it is to expose your cruelty and heartlessness—and how out of touch you are. The fact you think it’s fine for women to have to jump through such hoops to get health care is insane and also great fodder for opposition ads.

PS what makes you think all women who need abortions have jobs or that all jobs are desk jobs that come with computers? Elitist much?

Do a little self-reflection... it's not even the Democrats saying it - it's your own side, there's been example after example of their authoritarian attitude pointed out. Some of them are now saying the quiet part out loud and are openly calling for a dictatorship. https://www.mediaite.com/politics/pro-trump-fox-news-regular-comes-right-out-and-says-it-this-country-needs-a-dictator/

The only people forced to get vaccinated were federal employees. No one else was, at least not by the government.

It was the teachers, who were in a vulnerable position who chose not to teach in person. Who was going to teach if the teachers weren't?

Complete misinformation. The vaccine mandate was for any business who did any kind of work with the federal government. That included linemen working outside with utility companies to merchandise stockers at Walmart.
Over 80 million people were affected by that ruling.
For a vaccine that neither stopped transmission or contracting Covid. It only helped the person getting it, not society as a whole.
You and your bodily autonomy can go pound sand.

Never mind that there are still people who are virtue signaling about the vaccine. I have (had) a friend who insists that she is ‘protecting her father’ by no longer letting me in her home, making me mask outside, sit over 10 feet away, etc. It’s virtue signaling and I told her this year I will not play Covid gymnastics anymore and ended the friendship.

Luckily the vaccine has worked and is working. So your scenario is false from the get-go.

People have to get vaccinated all the time. For school (do you not have children or remember when you were a child and had to get vaccinated. As in yes you were forced to either get vaccinated or to go to a different school if you chose not to). Also to travel to certain countries.

I realize R's do not care about the common good or doing the right thing for society's sake. But man. More than 1,000,000,000 people dead. Including relatives of mine from before the vaccine. And I'm willing to bet also relatives and friends of yours.

So yes, if you work in a field like health where you interact with a lot of people and are told you need certain vaccines to be able to go into work, then you will have to choose between getting the vaccine or rejecting it and quitting your job. Lots of jobs have various requirements. If you don't like having requirements for a job then start up your own business.

Outside of healthcare, give me one example of an employer demanding to see your MMR or chicken pox vaccination card. Both which by the way confer sterilizing immunity. Something that actually protects the general population.
But every business was being forced to shake down employees for something that equates to the seasonal flu vaccine.

"Every business was being forced" -- really? Can't take people like you seriously when you make stuff up.

You want to know which employee required vaccines before Covid? The military, that's who.

And again with your dismissal of all the Covid deaths. A big middle finger to you. I lost my mom because of Covid. Because someone else who had it passed it on to her, before there was a vaccine. The vaccine has saved countless lives including that of my child who has a pre-existing condition that makes her extremely vulnerable. Yes, I am angry at people like you who downplay the reality of our national trauma caused by this virus that you dismiss. The vaccine protects us. It protects my child.

I’m sorry about your mother but what protected your child was the virus mutated long ago to become a less lethal strain. Sadly, if your mother was properly treated, she might’ve survived. Telling people to go home and wait until they could no longer breathe was medical malpractice. You don’t know if HCQ or Ivermectin could have helped early on because it was banned. All you have are ‘studies’ that tell you that it would not have. I know doctors that had success with it early on, but politics got in the way and that was that.

I was told it would be the end of democracy in Virginia if Youngkin is elected. Not sure if that included elections in 2023. We will see if their prediction comes true, and there is no election for governor in 2025.

Yep. By now, the sky should certainly have fallen many times over and yet... it's still up there. Also still waiting for the mass exodus to Canada, as so many have promised to do. You know, in the face of the End of Days.

I see why you moved to the DC area. You can be with like minded people who don’t challenge.
Of course, I don’t think conservatives feel very safe in blue states. So many examples of liberals attacking conservatives they don’t agree with. Summer of BLM riots, anti-FA riots, violent liberal protests at colleges when conservatives speak, Riley Gaines being attacked at SFSU because she doesn’t want to swim against biological males, and the list goes on and on on.

THIS ^^. We see it all the time - liberals will NOT allow conservatives to express their views. And if they do? They're very likely to be attacked. It's so amusing how little self-awareness the PP and others just like him/her are.

You are welcome to express your views.

Students should not be forced to have their student fees go to support hate speech.

If you want to express views that show hate and intolerance, you are welcome to, but the public writ large will hold you to account for your views.

I mean, the GOP is banning books, literally: https://popular.info/p/revealed-these-ten-books-are-considered because they believe they are pornography. That is using the government to bend to your moral values. DiSantis is trying to do the same thing with Disney.

You don't see dems using their goverment power to curb speech the way the GOP is.

Stop projecting and gaslighting.
