Nope. It’s just a bunch of white people who have never experienced exclusion in their lives unable to accept that they aren’t allowed just because they exist. |
This again?

I'm the PP who grew up in Mount Rainier a long time ago. When I was a little girl, I remember when my father told us we couldn't join this pool because of our race. This was back in 1971 or so It's true there was a lawsuit that forced this pool to allow people like us to join, but make no mistake about it the members of this pool we're not at all welcoming for many years after. I remember not riding my bike around the pool at night out of fear that may or may not be justified when I was a child. |
| Fortunately, the PG pool is now a very welcoming place for all, though it might seem dumpy to some! |
I was visitor there last summer and it was definitely not welcoming to me.
|
Wow, that is not the usual experience; sorry to hear that. |
Oh no! What happened? |
Said something inappropriate that had a racial undertone. I'm white, but my husband is not. He wasn't there but still was upsetting. |
OMG. Disgusting. What is wrong with people. |
The private, majority white pool located in a majority black community that excluded blacks for decades still has a racist element? Shocking. |
| I'm a pool member. I am white, and I do not support the behavior described above. It's unacceptable. I have pool-friends of many races. It is true that the majority of pool members are probably white. However, it is by no means an "all white" pool. There is certainly racism imbued in every aspect of our society- that is undeniable, so it would be ridiculous to say, "The pool doesn't have a racist history." or "There are no people who have any racist ideas at the pool." We live in America. However, I don't think the current policies and practices of the pool are racist. The pool membership seems to be trending towards greater diversity, so it could be argued that the current policies are, in fact, increasing diversity. Similarly, while individuals at the pool may say or even think things that are abhorrent, the general ethos of the pool is definitely one of inclusion and social justice. |

I once overheard some children outside this pool - whose family seemed to be members (why would you wear swimming trunks outside this pool if you weren’t?) - making jokes about the Hispanic kids in the apartments across the street. It had racial undertones.
This isn’t representative of all members, I’m sure, but it does come off a bit colonial since they were taking items out of an Audi with dc plates. |
What were you doing there? Like the other members of PG Pool, your presence at this occurrence implicates you. |
Cutting through nature center to walk to my apartment. I'm a single mom who works. I don't have the time to help raise your kids too. |

I wonder if painting the pool as racist helps the waitlist shorten so that the people painting it as racist can get in faster.
