DS has moved up 5 places since he was placed on the waitlist. Still likely that at least 25 students will get offers from WL if comparing historical data. This holds true even with the larger number of students accepted for SY 23-24. |
Historical data also had way more kids offered spots in June even taking the extra 20 lottery slots into account. For those on the waitlist I hope you are right but it's unclear how much you can rely on historical data with such a major shift in this year's results so far. It looks like about 12 spots were offered by August last year and another 6 by count day. That's 18 more slots if last year is any measure. |
Another new wrinkle this year is the Banneker waitlist. PP whose number dropped 5 places when Walls made 3 offers, that might be that Walls made 2 offers after My School pulled the data, or it might be that 2 students who were waitlisted at both Walls and Banneker, and ranked Banneker higher, got offers at Banneker and enrolled there. (Or any of a variety of other things, but I think only the Banneker waitlist is new.) |

Is is looking like Walls will not go as deep into its waitlist this year.
Could be that students who wanted “big 5” did not get a spot and are choosing Walls over the less competitive privates (Field, Burke, SJC etc.) Alternatively, more students who may have chosen Wilson, their in boundary school, are deciding against it because of recent crime. |
| Np here. I personally think that JR is worse than it was 4-5 years ago. Walls is looking more attractive compared to JR to many people |
| JR more attractive to many people! More APs offered, higher level courses in math and scientific and actual sports teams on additions to tons of clubs. Oh, and JR actually has an auditorium, field etc… |
| Walls admissions told parents tonight that they are enrolled at 149 kids as of today. I am not sure how many of those could unenroll but tonight was pretty packed with incoming families. |
Yup I assume that means they are essentially done with the waitlist |
| If they drop below 148 it will be the smallest incoming freshman class since the fall of 2012. |
I'm not sure how that's going to happen with 150 kids on the waitlist. |
That’s why it’s interesting. The PP said that at 149, they’re “essentially done with the waitlist.” If so, it would mean they’re intentionally shrinking the incoming class. |

All we know for sure is that as of right now there are 149 enrolled. I imagine they plan to keep class at regular size - 150ish. But at this point, they will only go to the waitlist if/when kids unenroll over the summer/before school starts to go elsewhere. They also probably keep a spot or two open for people who move to DC before school starts - those kids are also eligible (if they have the grades) to interview and be offered a spot/placed on waitlist depending on their rubric score (grades plus interview).
Walls is probably always at this "fully enrolled" point at this time of year (June), and then typically by the end of August will have made another 15ish waitlist offers (as currently (as of June) enrolled kids unenroll to go elsewhere). So if things follow the typical course, another 15-20 on the waitlist will be offered a spot by count day in October. I know of at least one kid who enrolled at Walls but likely won't go (will stay at current school); if I know one, I'm sure there are several others like this as well, and I imagine this is always the case when you are dealing with a group of 150 humans. |
Yes, that’s why it would be better for JR zoned people to stay in JR. |
I don’t think it is more attractive to many families. My oldest kid went to JR. But then we bailed on it and my 2 younger kids went to Walls. Much better experience than JR to be honest for our family |
Better for whom? |
