When will Walls go to it’s Waitlist

But at this point, they will only go to the waitlist if/when kids unenroll over the summer/before school starts to go elsewhere. They also probably keep a spot or two open for people who move to DC before school starts - those kids are also eligible (if they have the grades) to interview and be offered a spot/placed on waitlist depending on their rubric score (grades plus interview).

Walls is probably always at this "fully enrolled" point at this time of year (June), and then typically by the end of August will have made another 15ish waitlist offers (as currently (as of June) enrolled kids unenroll to go elsewhere). So if things follow the typical course, another 15-20 on the waitlist will be offered a spot by count day in October.

I know of at least one kid who enrolled at Walls but likely won't go (will stay at current school); if I know one, I'm sure there are several others like this as well, and I imagine this is always the case when you are dealing with a group of 150 humans.

Who goes through the effort of enrolling and then un-enrolling at Walls? Families IB for JR who want more time? Basis families are past the deadline, privates are past deposit deadline. Where else are people switching to at this point?

Students who get off a waitlist elsewhere? Students who decide or have to move? Doesn’t really matter why.

People who get off a waitlist at a private school they'd like to attend.

9th graders who get into Latin because they have a sibling who got in for 5th.

People who are moving out of DC but didn't have their plans finalized back when they applied to Walls.

Exactly. It doesn't seem smart to be on the fence at this point since JR kids are working on class registration and Walls' summer bridge is June 26-30. Anyone enrolled at Walls after that point will have to catch up on language and math placement, course scheduling, etc. JR is so large that waiting until the last minute to suddenly switch seems more problematic in terms of scheduling. It's obviously doable but I don't see why anyone would purposefully wait if they really had no intent on attending Walls. And what is one really going to learn about JR in the next month that will make the decision for you? I could see if there are private school waitlists or sudden moves away from DC but not JR fence sitters.

Exactly. With a 150 people there will be a variety of reasons for unenrollment by a least a handful of kids - just a numbers game.

People who get off a waitlist at a private school they'd like to attend.

9th graders who get into Latin because they have a sibling who got in for 5th.

People who are moving out of DC but didn't have their plans finalized back when they applied to Walls.

I know a kid who enrolled at Walls and also at a private school. They plan to go to the private school, but have yet to decline their spot at Walls.

Also, it’s my understanding that the kids who were offered spots at Walls and wanted to attend the in-person tour had to enroll at Walls as a prerequisite. It seems likely at least several of these kids will end up making a different choice, opening up more spots at Walls.

nope, we were undecided until the Sunday before the deadline - we went on the tour without committing

For the last time not every family is in boundary for JR. Many DC families are not choosing between JR and Walls.

The wall may also push some kids who were on the fence to other options.
We got off the wait list 3 years ago after the orientation call.

How is the Walls waitlist doing?

Parent of a rising 8th grader who is just peripherally watching and seeing how HS wait lists are moving

I don't think it has moved much at all - last I heard (this past weekend), only about 4-5 spots.

I agree with you. It’s super disappointing. I am saddened when I see yet another good dc option go down the drain like that.
