There is no red flag law in TN - BUT.... the parents or the doctor that was treating this woman could have reported to police that she should not own firearms and they could have taken action. It does not take a red flag law to make that happen. Her parents said she should not own firearms. They knew it. But, took no action in notifying anyone. The Chief of Police said yesterday that had they known her mental instability, they could have prevented her from acquiring firearms. |
I think you are being sarcastic, but there wasn’t a recession until the powers that be kept talking about one. Growth jobs were all solid. |
Now do we want to talk about the rates of violent crime in red states? It’s way higher than it is in the blue states. Can we talk about how Republicans felt that the traitors in their midst who commit crimes on 1/6 suddenly felt they weren’t being treated fairly by the courts, that they were being targeted. Should we talk about how the GOP receives mega donations from the for profit prison system? And the fact that Black people continue to receive heavier sentences? How the GOP waved off four years of Trump and associated Trump peoples’ crimes? Can we talk about how they’ve basically said white collar crime is just being smart and no one should be tried for it? How they still downplay Trump’s literal sedition and treason? Moving back onto the thread topic can we talk about how the GOP has enabled those with active and dangerous mental illness to buy guns? How they refuse to restrict domestic abusers from purchasing guns even though prior acts of violence toward family members is one of the biggest risk factors for becoming a mass shooter? Can we talk about the conflict of interest between the gun makers being massive funders of GOP candidates? And how little interest the party of personal responsibility has in allowing people to sue gun makers? The GOP is soft on crime. Hard on Black and poor people but overall soft on crime. |
Sure. But also, someone shouldn't be legally allowed to suddenly buy SEVEN guns all of a sudden? SEVEN. That should trigger scrutiny and follow up. Ammunition should be capped. |
The GOP will always find someone else to blame. There's no law but so and so should've said something. Please. They damn well know that if there was an actual law, it would've been difficult for the shooter to purchase seven guns. |
| How do we stop mass shootings? Take away the mass shooting guns. It’s as easy as that. There is no right in the Constitution to a gun that can decimate 20 kids per minute. Any originalist worth their salt could tell you- the framers were talking about muskets and swords because that’s the only thing that was available in the 1780s. Except cannons, and no one thought the average Joe had a right to amass a dozen cannons. |
Once a child is an adult the parents really have no say. I mean they were letting her live there probably rent free. If they reported her you really think they would be safe? I think she had plans to kill them as well. |
If they reported her half of the posters on here would have called them anti trans bigots. |
If they felt unsafe if they reported her, then maybe she should have been hospitalized for her emotional illness. And, the parents absolutely had a say. She was living under their roof - doesn't matter whether she was paying rent. If they thought she was a danger to herself or others (and they must have, given they made her get rid of firearms and thought she had), they have a say. |
There's no red flag law in TN, so...... |
| Again, the most students murdered at a school were not killed by a gun. This is so the wrong approach! |

Lax gun laws in less restrictive states are to blame everywhere.
1) two thirds to 87% of guns recovered from crimes in democratic states are straw purchases trafficked from states with less restrictive gun laws 2) Statistically speaking, per capita, mass shootings are less likely in states with more restrictive gun laws. In fact, mass shootings are trending up in states with less restrictive gun laws in recent years. The GOP ignores and gaslights these basic statistics that show that gun control is shown by research to work (Please don't give me anecdotes in response, you will only prove your own stupidity with "but such and such happened in this BLUE state!" Anecdotes are not research) |
Fact! This is a very inconvenient truth. |

There are a lot of good ideas in this thread. But where do we go from here?
Personally I already vote for politicians who support gun reform. I donate to Moms Demand Action and Sandy Hook Promise. I’ve written letters and signed petitions. I’ve shared info. on social media, which just leads to defriending stupid gun nuts I went to HS with down south who make brilliant claims like “well you can kill someone with a frying pan, should we outlaw those?” But what else is there? It feels like yelling into a void at this point because our country is run by heartless zombies who care more about their NRA blood money than the lives of Americans. |
Honestly, the red states are to blame in two ways 1) Strawman purchases in their states are the contributing factor behind gun crime in democratic cities that they love to blame democrats for. However, those guns are getting purchased in red states and trafficked to blue cities. 2) Less restrictive gun laws in red states is contributing to an increase in mass shooting in red states. Mass shootings happen in blue states, but statistically less likely |
