This is just a snippet from The National Assessment Threat Center (NATC), a division of the U.S. Secret Service study (March 2021)— “Averting Targeted School Violence: A U.S. Secret Service Analysis of Plots Against Schools.” The NATC data strongly supports implementing mandatory national Red Flag laws or “threat assessments” in addition to mandatory national safe firearm storage laws. Both fall under the “Extreme Risk Protection Order” legislation proposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The proposal was included in the Biden Administration’s gun violence prevention plan update from The White House Briefing Room statements on December 14, 2021. Again, in 2022. Biden has stated numerous times that our country will not be beholden to the NRA. Yet, here we are.

The problem is GOP and their low IQ/EQ representatives. Purely political posturing, and they’re not even good at it. No one in their right mind is doling out sanity cards to these people.

There is no red flag law in TN - BUT.... the parents or the doctor that was treating this woman could have reported to police that she should not own firearms and they could have taken action.
It does not take a red flag law to make that happen. Her parents said she should not own firearms. They knew it. But, took no action in notifying anyone.
The Chief of Police said yesterday that had they known her mental instability, they could have prevented her from acquiring firearms.

Once a child is an adult the parents really have no say. I mean they were letting her live there probably rent free. If they reported her you really think they would be safe? I think she had plans to kill them as well.

If they felt unsafe if they reported her, then maybe she should have been hospitalized for her emotional illness. And, the parents absolutely had a say. She was living under their roof - doesn't matter whether she was paying rent. If they thought she was a danger to herself or others (and they must have, given they made her get rid of firearms and thought she had), they have a say.

You clearly have never had to deal with an adult child with psychiatric problems.

Any originalist worth their salt could tell you- the framers were talking about muskets and swords because that’s the only thing that was available in the 1780s. Except cannons, and no one thought the average Joe had a right to amass a dozen cannons.

I agree. Just like free speech shouldn’t apply to television and internet because they weren’t available in 1780. So anyone who criticizes the government on the internet should be sentenced to life in prison by the government. (Sarcasm)

Tougher punishment on crime. We can’t keep catching and releasing.

Pack the prisons with the criminals and keep them there.

Normalize being normal. Quit acting like transgender, gay marriage, divorce, crime, etc, is behavior that should be applauded. Two parent homes with disciplined kids should be applauded

You are not only an idiot, you are dangerous.

When morality is called dangerous, and those pushing for morality are called idiots, you end up with school shootings.

I think people like you are immoral. Who is to say your definition of immorality trumps mine?

+1 That PP is hateful.

No. When people can’t see right from wrong, and moral from immoral, you have school shootings.

In Europe, out-of-wedlock births and atheism are rampant. No mass shootings.

IT'S THE GUNS.

Leading cause of death in children is firearms.

I support this. I will add that people with gender dysphoria usually have additions cooccurring mental illnesses. Severe depression and various phobias for example.

We’ve got a man winning NCAA womens swim meets. We’ve got a transportation secretary married to a man, and they “had a baby”. And people think this behavior is somehow normal or right. It’s no wonder people in this country are screwed up in the head.

So this murder happened due to two highly educated men who are raising a baby together? Do I have that right? So priests and pastors can sexually molest children for centuries, but the shooting yesterday happened because of Pete Buttigeig's baby? Do I have that correct?

it IS normal and right. the fact that so many of you think it's immoral lies the problem.

Looks like most mass shooting were from white Christian men, so what is your point?

And guns. Don’t forget about the guns. Mass shootings don’t happen without them.

Show the bodies of victims of these horrible shootings. It's a terrible suggestion but I don't think people realize what happens wgg he en you get shot.

Even more horrifying, the “bodies” are usually in pieces.

Yes. I think you summed up their reasoning quite nicely. This is the Republican thought train that runs our Congress.

A few things need to happen.
1. Require gun owners to carry insurance for their guns. The deductible and price of insurance will be dependent on the insurance company and how risky they believe it is to ensure the person seeking insurance. Not having insurance would be grounds to have your guns removed. Perhaps even requiring a gun order to have a license to own it, such as a driver's license for using a car.
2. Red flag laws in every state at the federal level.
3. A national database for red flagged violations
4. Mandatory background checks and a 5-day waiting period for all gun purchases no matter from where whether it be a distributor or a private seller
5. Steeper penalties for those selling guns without proper background checks

6. Universal mental health care. Preferably universal health care for everyone and an affordable rate
7. Better crisis response plans in places like schools, mom's churches, anywhere, large amounts of people gather.
8. Bulletproof glass being used in schools

This. Sandy Hook was a 9/11-like moment for me. I remember the horror I felt and exactly where I was when I found out.
