What do we need to do to stop mass shootings?

"Ban guns and the mass shootings will stop".

Sort of.

Mass shootings are a symptom of a bigger disease. Banning guns is treating the symptom, but is not a cure.

The root cause is a combination of:
- lack of societal discipline to detect and treat mental illness as early as possible
- a lack of monitoring once identified
- working on the root causes that tend to fuel the flames of what cause people to become unhappy or disgruntled (ex. poverty, injustice and unfairness - social or otherwise, deliberate social media abuse, etc.). Let's face it, if things were good, people would be happier in general.

But there is also a segment of the population that won't respond to treatment or help if offered. That's the most dangerous to deal with. Unfortunately, that's where incarceration or involuntary psychiatric admission is required.

Oh, and I shouldn't forget the gas-lighters. Half of DCUMS would qualify.

Stricter gun laws. Look at Australia and the UK. Mass shootings there are exceedingly rare and there have been no school shootings since they implemented stricter gun laws.

Media can start calling these monsters "losers." In headlines, in the story, everywhere. Make it known these are weirdo losers.

A civil war would ensue.

And the side with the guns would win.

Homicide rate is 50%less than it was in the 90's. And there are more guns than ever floating around.

Vote Democratic. GOP won’t do anything. A vote for them is a vote to let this madness continue. Full. Stop.

This would work-- greed would win.

There are more guns than people in the U.S.

We also need to improve mental health after we (let’s be honest) way-over did it with the Covid lockdown, and harmed so many kids health.

The out of control social media isn’t helping; in fact it’s making things worse.

These partial solutions are realistic and achievable.

Harden our schools? The he!!?

There is also too much delving into their issues etc. and at times it's almost as if it's being done to 'understand' them. I go back to the top in my comment, unless they have a brain tumor, they are a coward and a murderer.

Don't show the picture. The stories should be done giving the shooter minimal attention. It just encourages more .

This.

Stricter regulation of guns, much more like cars.

Make mental health services and medical care more available to the vast majority of Americans, including in the red states, where many politicians refuse $$$ for their residents.

Media blackout. Do not report on mass shootings. These are suicides with homicides added on. The notoriety is what drives it, ever since Columbine.
