Another pregnant teacher

There are 45 full days of school after spring break. The last week is a wash if in ES and finals week if in MS or HS. It will be fine. Teachers are humans and have the right to choose how to manage their health. The posters that suggest admin giving incentives to stay really has no clue that it would have to be a FCPS wide incentive. There is no way any school system of that size could give $10K to the hundreds+ teachers.

One took a year off and then quit & never came back. And the other said she would be gone just six weeks (lol!), and then decided to take an additional semester off.

Holy jeebus, they were dishonest for changing their minds once they experienced the realities of parenthood?

In absolutely no other profession would we blame people for having a baby and then deciding they needed to readjust their work/life balance. But teachers have to neglect their kids for the sake of someone else’s…?

Thank you for highlighting this point.

It’s so hard on the kids in the class when teachers leave mid year but the teachers don’t care. I am not sure how they can quit without repercussions when they have a contract but I have never seen their contracts so I don’t know.

At the start of a year, my kid was supposed to have a teacher returning from maternity leave. She decided to to return just before the school year and after we got the class assignment. That class had a horrible long term sub who was mean to the kids. It was a bad year.

Would you like to force abortions on pregnant teachers? This isn’t China. Yet

She’s 24….. not even married yet, not sure how long she was trying, and I asked her how’s she felling she said good!

LOL oh no she isn't married (clutches pearls) what a Karen you are

She is pregnant. Her responsibility now is to her own child, not yours. Just as you are here putting your child above her child.

She is doing what she thinks is best for her and her baby. You'll live.

Once SOLs are over in FCPS, the school year is over. I remember my kids coming home with crumpled-up word searches and crossword sheets in their backpacks, or saying they watched a movie. That was most of May. What did you do today, kids? "Nothing."

FCPS needs to shorten the school year. School lets out three days after the last SOL.

How do you know her medical history and that she doesn’t have “issues” with the pregnancy?

OP doesn't they just think teacher and probably the rest of the world owe them. It's entitlement and teacher/woman bashing. The title says it all.

I guess that tells you everything you need to know! She should get back to the classroom until contractions start.

I am a teacher, and I always fib about my job satisfaction, my personal life, and student behavior. Some parents press and press and it’s not your business.

Well, that sort of goes another way too. They SAY they do it b/c they love kids and educating them. We have had lots of teachers miss lots of school in recent years and it IS disruptive. That is their right, so fine. But, don't act like it doesn't negatively affect the kids in their classroom. they have 10-12 weeks in the summer which is more than most people have. I certainly don't get that. i don't get why some of their issues cannot be handled or timed for during that time. Sure, it doesn't always work out. And sure, they CAN do whatever they want. That doesn't mean that they should and then expect parents whose kids aren't being taught sufficiently to be happy about it.

You don't get it both ways.

When parents or students ask me how I am, I always say great! I am in my 40s but don’t think they want to hear about my chronic health issues and I don’t want to share. I had severe issues early on in one pregnancy and couldn’t be on my feet for a while twice during the pregnancy. Once fell during the summer. The last time I went on maternity leave early.
