Another pregnant teacher

If I could have quit I would have.

I had a desk thrown at me when I was 6 months pregnant. Child had one day if ISS and then was back in class. Good for this teacher.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest it's pretty likely the situation in her classroom is not safe. I'm unclear on if you are a parent or a colleague of the pregnant teacher. If you are a parent, you will never know what is truly going on in the room. If you have a kid in the room, and the teacher is leaving, I'd consider pulling your child out. If it isn't safe for the teacher, I guarantee it isn't safe for the students. If you are a colleague, then you know the situation in your building. And here's the thing, even if she left for no reason at all, she has that right. The contract only applies as long as one is employed. It does not function as handcuffs to the employer.

I'm a teacher who just recently left my position due to safety issues. My employer didn't keep up their end of the bargain (ensuring safety), why should I keep mine? I was under the terms of my contract until I resigned, not a second after that.

I thought they have contracts?

VA is at will. The contracts don’t really do anything.

And teachers wonder why parents think they don’t care. My kids have had two te she’s do this in 3 years. Then they get some crappy long term sub if they are lucky.

What?

Exactly!! And good for you! I'm sorry you were put in that position with no support.

Bingo. Excess stress can harm the developing baby.

Ugh. My daughter had two years back-to-back of young teachers leaving for maternity leave. The subs were AWFUL. The teachers were dishonest and played the school district. One took a year off and then quit & never came back. And the other said she would be gone just six weeks (lol!), and then decided to take an additional semester off.

I don’t understand why you keep voting for a school board who cares nothing about classroom safety. Do you?

Took 3 pages- hello Republicans!
I do know Why I vote for dems: I’m anti book banning, I want my kids to say the word gay to support my gay cousins, I’m anti charter schools and don’t want my tax dollars supporting religious or wealthy private schools for vouchers.

Thanks for asking!

Maybe she doesn't want to be around germy kids who are unvaccinated "for religious reasons" or because conspiracy theory #309542.
Pregnant women are immuno-suppressed. If your kid who didn't get his MMR vaccine gives her rubella, that could be very dangerous for the fetus.

Holy jeebus, they were dishonest for changing their minds once they experienced the realities of parenthood?

In absolutely no other profession would we blame people for having a baby and then deciding they needed to readjust their work/life balance. But teachers have to neglect their kids for the sake of someone else’s…?

How do gay porn books in school support your cousins?

FCPS offers 1 and 2 year leave of absence programs. They do not pay anything during this time, teachers pay the full cost of benefits and collect no paycheck. There is no “playing the district” occurring, teachers are using a program the district has created. If at the end they decide not to return, the district has lost very little.

And for the 6 week one? That’s because FCPS pays for 0 time off when you have a baby. You have to burn 6 weeks of sick leave, or 2 weeks and then receive partial salary through std for the next 4. Most young teachers don’t have more than that, so I have known many who came back after 6 weeks (myself included). No one can blame anyone else for realizing after 6 weeks that she needed more time. There are posts on here all the time of new moms extending their 12 week or 6 month maternity leaves because it wasn’t enough time!

Because teaching is ridiculous right now and this is her out. No one wants to hear us~ way too much stress in teaching dealing with all the behaviors and the lack of support.

I left work at 6 weeks. I was so sick I couldn’t even get out of bed. You don’t know her condition or history, maybe it’s a baby she’s been trying to have for a long time. Maybe the doctor ordered rest. It’s her life and she can leave work if she chooses. Not your business.
