So would i if this test meant anything but it's never been used anywhere so hard to get a sense of what the scores really mean. On the one hand MCPS has scores well above national norms on tests like NWEA's MAP but on this new test everyone fails which makes me think it's just a bad test. |
MCPS scores are not well above the national norms on MAP! Take a look at your kids MAP report and compare the line for the national average with that of MCPS. MCPS is only slightly higher. |
The information posted in parentvue shows MCPS scores are a few percentage points above national norms. |
That’s not “well above” but also looking at my 8th graders MAP reports, for most periods they are within one point (not percentagile but MAP score point) of each other and with some of them the average for MCPS is BELOW the national average. |
| Still nothing for my current 5th grader. Soon it will be time for him to take the MCAP again … |
Yes, it's just a bad test that's never been any use anywhere and the results are meaningless. |
Lol. Can we opt out? Why would I subject a child to a test that is hours long when we will never get the results and the results will never be used? By the time my current 6th grader gets their score from 5th grade, they will be a rising 7th grader! |
I am thinking the same thing. If we all opt out maybe they will get rid of the test?? |
Not to mention it's a bad test that fails 95% of the kids who take everywhere. |
| I would love to also opt my kids out of this pointless test. Please keep us posted if anyone learns anything! |
Thank you rational DCUM player. Remember folks just because you pay a small fortune for your schools doesn’t guarantee they’re very good. MCPS is living off the fumes of a reputation from 40 years ago. When half of your 3rd graders struggle to read, all is not well - and hasn’t been well - in Rockville. |
Au contraire. They have meaning for the coming nightmare to Maryland taxpayers in the form of the Blueprint for Maryland. This is the 7-10 billion buck give away to teachers unions to put Maryland on par with places like Singapore. In exchange these tests were a fake ‘accountability’ check - to show taxpayers how much Larlo was improving. Massachusetts pulled off this feat in 1993 and have been ahead of all states for 25 years (only felled occasionally by DODEA kids in NAEP). Oh Maryland, my Maryland. You can spend the money but your corrupt ways will always ensure you remain below Florida on all the significant nationwide tests (and they currently pay a third in public school costs) |
So, so true. Not sure where all the money is going, but our kids certainly aren’t seeing good results. |
| What do you suppose they will do this year? Make an easier test so that more students are proficient? There has to be something that we as parents can do about this nonsense. Almost a year ago they took this test and no scores yet. In 2 months or so students will be taking another one. |
I know some fearmongers would have you believe this, but the demographics of the county have changed substantially over the past 20 years. This has an impact on test score averages, but in no way has the quality of education declined. You can do as well or better today than in years past. The same amazing opportunities are available to anyone who is interested. |
