Ugh, you do realize women serve honorably and with valor currently - to include frontline combat positions in the next war?

NP, and sure. But from a selfish perspective, I'd rather my daughter not be compelled. If she chooses to serve, great.

I'd rather my son not be compelled either. I'd go in his place any day. But fair is fair. As long as we have the possibility of the draft in this country, it should be equal for men and women.

Which war was started by women?

oh please. that's such a dumb question. Do you not benefit from our military's protection today?

My 18 yr old son doesn't seem to think it's a big deal yet from what I've seen online, it's still required....

No. We did not know about it and my kid did not register. We also filled out FAFSA and CSS (though we are not eligible for any need based money) and the university gave my son a lot of merit aid.

Failure to register is a felony punishable with a fine of up to $250k and 5 years in jail.

I had never heard of it before this thread. To be honest, it doesn’t really sound like our type of thing. I would rather my son have the choice about whether or not to serve.

As for the find and 5 years in jail, I don’t think so. I beg half of us have never registered. If if was such a big deal it would be automatic.

See, this is why I think a citizenship test should be passed by every HS graduate like us foreigners have to pass when we are trying to naturalize. We are required to know this for the citizenship test. It most definitely IS A thing and the PP is absolutely correct. It's like saying "oh I didn't know I had to get a DL license in order to drive a car. I just don't think DLs are for us."

Patriarchy thinks they are too weak

Matriarchy says only dumbies go to war.

You think the matriarchy made these rules in the first place or has the power to change them now? What are you smoking?

Women rule the world.

I’m in my late 40s, but in high school, my government class taught kids how to register to vote and how to register for the selective service. Unless you weren’t an American between the ages of 16-20, I don’t know how you never heard of this. I guarantee you that nowhere near half the people who are required to register have failed to do so.

I can't argue with that. But again, from a selfish perspective, I'm not going to advocate for change.

How many wars did my son start? I'm so glad he is expandable to your dumb self but he is not to me.

Sexism and historical inertia. It should be required for everyone IMO.

Hell, no. Most women would simply be unable to go to some random country and starting killing off people.

All the more reason to send them. Don't you think?

So we can lose wars? Or because you want to kill off all the women?

So you're ok with our men going into a random country "to start killing off people" but not our women? You're ok with our son's dying in war but not daughters?

Logic is not your strong suit.

You're a tool. Women are horrible at fighting. The justice warriors have been trying to get these women into elite units and they have been failing miserably.

Whatever are you prattling on about now, you silly ninny?

In the event of the draft, the amount randomly selected women between 18-40 that would actually meet medical and physical criteria to serve would be very low. The time and cost spent screening would result in very little benefit. Between pregnancy, being postpartum, nursing, having a child at home (they couldn’t draft both parents), plus the physical fitness standards would not be passable to vast majority of average women

Truth. I mean, Israel has exactly this problem.

This woman is happy that neither she nor her DDs will have to fight wars against their will, as opposed to what happened to many men in the Vietnam era and perhaps in the future.

Call me conservative all you want.

And, thank you, men.

But you're ok with my son going to fight for you and your daughter. This is why you all get a bad name.
