Who else voted against weed legalization for rec use in MD?

You're really reaching if you feel that the reason weed should be illegal -- people should go to jail for using it -- is that you don't like the smell. There's lots of things I don't like the smell of, but I don't want to send people to jail for them. Except maybe Lindberger cheese...

Super liberal. Voted to legalize in DC. Would take it back in a second. The place smells like dirty socks; the entire city! Gross. I’d vote yes only if it’s even more strictly controlled than cigarettes. Like no outdoor stinking up everything. I cannot overexpress how terrible this turned out to be from a personal standpoint

Are you really obtuse to believe that second pot smoke is only a 'smell' and to believe that it doesn't expose unwilling bystanders to psychotropic drugs? The smell of cheese doesn't contain mind altering substances, nor does it contain carcinogens. If you live in an apartment nextdoor to pot smoking losers, you may be forced to expose your children to a constant level of THC and other psychoactive ingredients that are known to cause developmental issues when developing brains are exposed to such molecules.

health care, impaired driving, addiction, but hey, more tax money coming in to spend on programs that aren't helping.

Agreed. DH and I voted against it, but I think it will be legalized anyway. Maryland voters will overwhelmingly vote in favor of it.

Wait, what? Is there a certain race that smokes weed? What does that even mean?

I know plenty of people of various races that enjoy pot.

Visit a local dispensary or CBD shop and see who primarily frequents these establishments. Your glass of red wine is no better. Vodka tonic? Worse. I see you stopping at the state run liquor store on the way home from work. Stop!

They should legalize drinking and driving. It's just as safe.

Drinking and driving is legal, within a limit. Do you get it?

I voted against it as well. Saw the damage first hand to my nephew who got hooked and went downhill from there

It's absurd to think that making weed illegal kept anyone from using it.

I don't know how you all smell pot in streets of DC with the overpowering stench of piled up homeless feces and urine going on there.

Pot makes you dumb. A little pot makes you a little dumb, and a lot of pot makes you really dumb.

It’s not in our interest as a society to be even further dumbed down.

Alcohol does the same thing, but it’s a heck of a lot more addictive.

DP - alcohol doesn’t increase risk for psychosis. It doesn’t produce smoke that’s harmful for those around the person smoking weed.

Are you really arguing alcohol is less harmful than weed?

No, I’m not. I’m arguing that weed isn’t harmless, as a shocking amount of educated people seem to think.

As to the psychosis issue: I should have been more specific. Cannabis use in adolescence specifically increases risk for psychosis and schizophrenia. Alcohol might increase that risk slightly, but not nearly as much as cannabis.

But again, the real problem is that people think cannabis is NBD. It IS a big deal. It’s NOT okay to smoke weed during pregnancy, or give it to your teenagers, or smoke it regularly around your kids.

NO ONE is suggesting weed for minors or pregnant women. Obviously. 🙄

Juul wasn’t supposed to be sold to minors either and yet…

I’m in CA where weed has been legal for awhile. There is very little tolerance for smoking in communal spaces, at least in the SF Bay Area.

I know a lot of people who partake- they are all very successful middle age professionals. My BF uses occasionally because he doesn’t drink and likes get high on weekends here and there. He uses either a vape pen or edibles. MOST users do this. There’s no smell. It has zero impact on other people and most people get it delivered to their homes and use it there.

Not sure if you are aware but being high makes you happy to relax at home it’s not something that makes you want to go out driving around. 😂

Have you ever been to a dispensary? Minors are not buying at a legal shop. Your DL is recorded every time you want to walk in the door. And it’s much more expensive to buy legally than on the street.

Kids have always smoked weed - being illegal doesn’t mean anything. There is a typical demographic that seems to use flavored vape pens and it’s not educated middle or upper class adults (the group legal weed seems to attract).

I’m voting for it!!!!! Legalize weed in Maryland. I love smoking and getting high. Most of my neighborhoods smoke in our middle class market rate rent neighborhood. Who prefers cigarillos over sheets?
