Who else voted against weed legalization for rec use in MD?

Pot makes you dumb. A little pot makes you a little dumb, and a lot of pot makes you really dumb.

It’s not in our interest as a society to be even further dumbed down.

Alcohol does the same thing, but it’s a heck of a lot more addictive.

It already is.

DP - alcohol doesn’t increase risk for psychosis. It doesn’t produce smoke that’s harmful for those around the person smoking weed.

+1

The people I know who regularly smoke pot are down to about three brain cells. They're really dumb. They're also extremely addicted to pot.

DP. It actually does. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK459134/)

Are you really arguing alcohol is less harmful than weed?

But alcoholics are just fine.

You, ironically, sound like you have about 3 brain cells.

No, I’m not. I’m arguing that weed isn’t harmless, as a shocking amount of educated people seem to think.

As to the psychosis issue: I should have been more specific. Cannabis use in adolescence specifically increases risk for psychosis and schizophrenia. Alcohol might increase that risk slightly, but not nearly as much as cannabis.

But again, the real problem is that people think cannabis is NBD. It IS a big deal. It’s NOT okay to smoke weed during pregnancy, or give it to your teenagers, or smoke it regularly around your kids.

I bet you drink alcohol. Should we make that illegal, too? I'd rather be on the road with stoned drivers than drunk drivers.

Stupid argument. I can't get you second hand drunk. Your weed pollutes the lungs of anyone who doesn't want to be exposed to weed. Children in households with weed users have detectable amounts of THC in their blood. It's disgusting.

And yet cigarettes aren’t illegal. One could argue the smoke from cigarettes is worse.

Cigarette use is banned in public spaces.

We need the same crack down on weed.

Now what are you smoking?? It is not illegal to smoke a cigarette while walking down the sidewalk.

Yes it is, actually.

Outdoor smoking is banned in Friendship Heights and that other little micro-municipality who’s name escapes me.

Are you talking about a public space in DC? Do you have a source for that?

Or are you talking about a private development, which is... not a public space.

Cigarettes do not emit psychoactive substances to unwilling bystanders that alters their perception of reality and can cloud their judgement like weed does.

You need to expand your horizons. Here, take a hit.

I really don’t care if people want to eat gummies or whatever. I just don’t want to smell it and I don’t want my small children to smell it. That’s why I voted against legalization.

I am voting against. I think decriminalization is fine and that’s where we should keep it. Full legalization on the other hand is dumb, will be bad for kids and bad for our communities. How many people are going to want to live in an apartment where people constantly smoke weed in their unit or on their balconies? This will increase, particularly in lower income neighborhoods and I personally believe it is a quality of life nuisance that is also a racial justice issue.

Another vote against. While I'm as liberal as they come, I'm against it for all the reasons above.

I'm working outside on my porch right now (well, looking at DCUM since I'm in a Friday, super warm November afternoon mode) and soon before I saw this thread I could smell it faintly. Just hate the smell.

I don’t think anyone is saying it’s ok. Most people use edibles anyway.
