I will remind you that back when that prediction was made, gas did hit over $7/gal in locations around the US. You have a very short memory.

Republicans and Trump also wanted to top off the SPR back when oil was $20/barrel, but Democrats wouldn't allow it because they said it was a "bail out for Big Oil." What losers the Democrats are. And, we all lose as a result.

I'm pulling up Gas Buddy, and the closest I can find is California $6, for two weeks in the last two years, and that's with their very high taxes AND a series of refineries there going offline at the same time.

So no, your memory is not quite right. The prediction was wrong, just wrong.

“Doing something” would be more oil production and refining here in the US. Not begging the Saudis to keep prices down until the election, so dems won’t be hurt at the polls. Not putting 250,000 acres of land off limits to drilling the same week you further deplete our strategic reserves. Not having the NMFS put thousands of additional square miles of offshore oil fields on a prohibited status while groveling to China to put more of their oil on the world market. Not canceling a pipeline that gets oil from Canada down to the gulf for export on the world market, thus lowering the overall market prices. And the NEWEST refinery in this country was built when Joe Biden was still in his late 20’s - and he’s 80 now!

Countering any of those things would be “doing something”.

All Joe did was try (and fail miserably) to keep prices down until after people voted.

Fundamentally Biden needs to break opec

That’s the only way to get the us less sensitive to oil prices that are artificially high

Domestic production doesn’t work because we don’t have a state oil company

I’m an oil investor -upstream firms will not pimp and drill like 2010-2020 without taking capex into account. Oil firms are consolidating and returning money to shareholders, not pumping sub marginal barrels

Biden must direct the two carriers he has to launch a decapitation strike on MBS then a ground invasion to take Aramco.

Aramco will become a USG asset that pumps cheap oil to flood markets.

Think of it as “public option” oil.

My memory is just fine, but I do have is zero tolerance for fiction and bullshit. You are lying your ass off.

First, the overwhelming majority of America never even came close to hitting gas prices anywhere near $7 a gallon. If you want to claim someplace did, that's not data, that's an outlier and anomalous anecdote, and you are engaging in fallacious cherrypicking.

Second, oil was $20 a barrel for barely one week in April 2020 when the oil market collapsed due to lack of demand because we were in the height of the pandemic. And it caught Trump and Republicans by surprise. They didn't have a coherent or actionable plan to top off the SPR. And it caught the oil industry by surprise as well, and they had zero interest in losing buckets of money selling to the SPR for $20 a gallon. Your phony claim that they tried to make it happen but were "shot down by Dems who said it was a bail out for big oil" is complete fiction.

A much better option is to break our dependency on foreign oil altogether by continuing to push for electric cars.

I suspect the PP knows full well the prediction was wrong but is being a jerk by trying to push it anyhow, arrogantly thinking he can insult everyone's intelligence like that. Typical.

LOL. Joe presided over record American oil production. That must break Republican's brains. It certainly shreds their dumb talking points.

It doesn’t work

Oil production is controlled by upstream private firms

They will never pump enough to bring the price down to $40/barrel in a healthy economy

So there needs to be a “state oil” option to keep producers less interested in shareholder returns/capital discipline and more interested in pumping oil.

Hence my suggestion on conquering Saudi Arabia and appropriating Aramco.

The other option but it isn’t as effective is colonizing Venezuela — but it will take a lot more effort to get Venezuela up and running.

Or, we move away from oil by using more nuclear, solar, hydroelectric and wind power.

You are about 30 years late and trillions more in debt. If you think China will allow you to mess with it's oil source, you are deeply mistaken.

What's the refining capacity?

We’re basically at 100% capacity right now after ExxonMobil expanded their facility in Beaumont earlier this year. Superior had another one come back on line in Wisconsin this past spring. There’s a new refinery coming in Oklahoma https://www.ogj.com/refining-processing/refining/article/14294534/texas-operator-selects-cushing-for-planned-decarbonized-refinery and one at Texas International Terminals came on last year.
