So, another release of the SPR - which Biden says is NOT politically motivated even though everyone knows it is.

The SPR was created for emergencies. It is now at its lowest level in 40 years.

Remember when Trump wanted to fill the SPR at $20 a barrel and Democrats would not approve it?
Now, Biden will end up refilling it at close to $100 a barrel.

In 1975, Congress created the Strategic Petroleum Reserve with the intention of insulating the U.S. from volatility in oil markets and to ensure a guaranteed inventory of energy supplies. It had its roots in the oil embargo enacted by Arab members of OPEC, which quadrupled the price of oil and led to widespread gasoline shortages. The SPR is authorized to hold up to 714 million barrels in underground salt caverns at four sites: Bayou Choctaw and West Hackberry in Louisiana; and Big Hill and Bryan Mound in Texas.

U.S. presidents have ordered emergency drawdowns three previous times: during Operation Desert Storm; after Hurricane Katrina; and in response to oil disruptions in Libya in 2011.

We really dont have enough of anything. We dont have enough reserves of oil, or critical medicine, or military equipment, or key manufacturing components. Americans really dont value preparing for emergencies. Biden is probably making the correct political call that he can take supplies down to the wire and most people wont care.

OPEC is not making decisions about the use and replenishment of our strategic reserves.

Plus, Presidents do lots of things for political reasons. This doesn't even rank on any scale of problematic for me.

He could also, you know, be doing it b/c he knows that higher prices are tough for consumers.

OPEC is not making decisions about the use and replenishment of our strategic reserves.

They are restricting supply, however, which causes prices to rise. Release of reserves will keep it down to some extent. Or do you now not care about "inflation" all of a sudden?

Are voters fool enough to vote for election deniers? We don't want to leave our future citizens a country where differences are settled by beating the crap out of each other with flag poles instead of voting.

The 15 million barrels being sold now are part of the total 180 million barrels that were announced to be released in March. You don't think the President should try to blunt the impact Russia's invasion of Ukraine has had on the oil market?

BTW, OP, the graph you posted is completely misleading. The strategic reserve is still over half full, with 400+ million barrels still available.
