Strategic Petroleum Reserve

LOL

“Doing something” would be more oil production and refining here in the US. Not begging the Saudis to keep prices down until the election, so dems won’t be hurt at the polls. Not putting 250,000 acres of land off limits to drilling the same week you further deplete our strategic reserves. Not having the NMFS put thousands of additional square miles of offshore oil fields on a prohibited status while groveling to China to put more of their oil on the world market. Not canceling a pipeline that gets oil from Canada down to the gulf for export on the world market, thus lowering the overall market prices. And the NEWEST refinery in this country was built when Joe Biden was still in his late 20’s - and he’s 80 now!

Countering any of those things would be “doing something”.

All Joe did was try (and fail miserably) to keep prices down until after people voted.

That was trump’s fault. Production cratered during his regime. Totally failure.

Which is totally not an emergency. The whole thing pisses me off and I hope we don't have an actual emergency where we would need to tap an empty reserve.

It's an extreme emergency. The republicans attempted a coup not long ago and and are a threat to our democracy. If they get in power, the end begins. Use the reserve if it helps.

The irony is.. if you have to exclude Republicans from your "democracy" then it isn't really a "democracy" to begin with.

Losing an election is not being excluded from democracy. It's just losing an election.

Not according to dems. When they lose, it’s “the END of democracy!”

It’s like something my 4 year old would say.

Democrats throw tantrums. Look at the pink p*ssy hat marches and the summer of violence in 2020. They have professional tantrum throwers bussed in to cities.

They thought charges of bigotry and being a woman hater were going to be enough to keep them in power, they didn’t count on Biden messing up this bad and his VP lick having the charisma of a bucket of used drug needles.

Decent restraint. It took you 5 pages before you gave up on trying to defend events of Jan 6 and went right to pink hats and antifa.

You don’t get it. I am a republican and was mortified by Jan 6. I knew it would do lasting damage to Trump and others. But I still agree with the Republicans party on most issues and do so even more today than 2 years ago after the ridiculousness that is this administration. There is no cognitive dissonance here. Those Jan 6 people were bad but the are not the entire party and don’t speak for most of us. And yeah, sorry, you don’t get to just be super sore losers and put on your hats and scream at the sky and wring your hands for 4 years when you Lose because you have a crappy platform. Your platform and recent actions show a party that is not in alignment with moderates or traditional democrats. So buh by.

Sorry but they do speak for the party. Election deniers are candidates all over like a swarm of roaches. What are they doing as your candidates? They say nothing about holding the big wigs of Jan 6 responsible. Republicans that tried are out of the party.

How do you say this why Stacy Abrams is running for election. She denied her loss over and over and over.

No one is saying to throw rebublican votes in the garbage or suppress republican votes. Make your case and try to get enough to votes to win. And accept a loss without plotting a coup and assembling a violent mob to storm the capital. I really hope when I am trying to explain to DCs how far far out of the norm that was that I am right.

And to that end, anything that manipulates the election to favor dems, including begging other countries to interfere in the global oil market before an election and dipping into our own emergency supply of oil to keep prices down so voters won’t be angry at dems over gas prices, is perfectly fine.

That’s what I’ve learned from this thread.

Do you even hear yourselves?

What would all of you be saying if Trump was doing this instead of Biden? You’d be out in the streets rioting, setting fires and smashing windows. It would be January 6th every day, until November.

No one said anything like that.

When Trump wanted to top up the SPR in 2020 at $20 a barrel, Democrats like Chuck Schumer objected calling it a bailout of big oil. They stripped the money from the bill, and now Biden is calling for purchases at $72 a barrel if prices get that low.

What did Trump say when Saudi Arabia launched its price war against shale?

You mean back in 2014-2015, when Trump wasn’t president?

Not that it ever WILL get back down to $70 again, since Biden announced that as his buy-back price. So speculators will simply buy up futures and keep the price above that floor, waiting on higher prices.

Seriously, you couldn’t invent someone as stupid as Biden is naturally.

Uh no. In March 2020. Guess you're just pretending.

Trump suggested buying oil for the SPR at $20 because the price of oil was $0 at the time. The SPR was also full at the time.

The SPR is never “full”. JFC, read something.

Looking at the chart, it seems it was maybe 85% full, while Obama had it at 101% of listed capacity.

Yes, they do.

Pretty crappy time for our SPR to be at record lows.
It is times like these that the SPR was intended for.

Thanks, Biden.

At least we had cheaper gas in the months before the last election!
Anonymous
Huh, weird. Republicans insisted to us that gas would be $7 a gallon right now. They shouted it from the roof tops. They made little "I did that" stickers with Joe Biden and slapped them on gas pumps everywhere.

But gas is lower now than it was last year.

I will remind you that back when that prediction was made, gas did hit over $7/gal in locations around the US. You have a very short memory.

Republicans and Trump also wanted to top off the SPR back when oil was $20/barrel, but Democrats wouldn't allow it because they said it was a "bail out for Big Oil." What losers the Democrats are. And, we all lose as a result.
