Why do the English Royals look so old?

Anonymous
The American aesthetic is I think more obsessed with looking young as the goal. Plastic surgery, hairstyles and highlights meant to take years off, botox, teeth whitening, dewy “youthful” makeup, a million anti aging products, trendy fashion etc

The royal family is very clearly going for a more formal buttoned up look. Clothing is a bit frumpy and dated, no one appears to be fighting the aging process. They are traditional.

She reportedly drinks like a fish. I think the alcohol ages your face.

Typically, I know there are several 55 year old, 5’10”, size 2 DCUMers who look 30, so don’t come at me.

I also think how old someone looks at 70/80/90 is very much driven by genetics. Prince Philip looked older than the Queen (even accounting for age differences).

She is very skinny. A famous actress once said you had to choose between your weight and wrinkles. This was before Botox when gaining extra weight was used sometimes to plump out the skin. Maybe it was Lauren Bacall who said this??

If you look at photos of long-ago movie stars, they appear “fat” compared to the skinny people of today. I actually think these older stars looked normal and sexy at a more natural weight.

Kate looks painfully thin and she will probably become hunched over in old age due to the lack of nutrition now.

I do find myself wondering how she is this thin, actually. Even a very slim and fit woman wouldn't look like that after 3 kids. Yes, a woman csn be thin, sure, but she kind of hits below a general benchmark. What does she even eat?

Hope it's worth it.

People say this but she looks ok to me weight wise? I’m on the thin side, myself, so maybe it just doesn’t look unnatural to me for that reason?

I'm naturally pretty thin and it does look unnatural to me, mostly in the face. My body is thin, but I don't have that drawn, haggard look she has. I think she is basically a professional dieter.

Smoking and drinking.

I will say one thing about Kate, and this is probably what she's going for, her clothes look fantastic on her. Better than any Hollywood celebrity or model. She is narrow, tall and tiny

I agree. Recently I was wanting to find a source where I could look at pictures of older women with faces that haven’t been affected by cosmetic procedures, just to reacquaint myself with what people normally look like, and I couldn’t even think of where to find that.

Charles and Camilla look they could be Martha Stewart’s parents and she is in her 80’s. Also Nancy Pelosi’s parents and isn’t she like 90?

Reason I think it's partyl due to genetics - look at America's most famous Irish family. The Kennedys. So many wrinkles in that family. Much more than from just being in the sun without sunscreen.

+1 the kennedys also age poorly, truth

They are not an attractive bunch.

I'm stunned by how much plastic surgery the women AND men I know in my mc suburb have. It's the norm to at least get botox regularly. Many, many of them go for the full mommy lift.

Same here in Virginia. We all get regular botox and a lot of them got tummy tucks, veneers, and implants. We're in an affluent suburb and facelifts after 60 are also the norm. My FIL in FL got hair transplant and a facelift and his wife got everything done (boobs, stomach, lips, facelift, nose). My classmates who are now in California also had everything done and they also wear hair extensions for volume as an everyday thing. Those are normal people with normal jobs or SAHM - not entertainment.

I can believe that. I have a friend who does Botox in rural Ohio. She has 300 patients in a town of 15,000. Pretty much everyone over 40 who can afford it must be getting it.

Agree. This is what natural aging process looks like. The younger royals will likely age better due to increased sunscreen use/skin cancer awareness. Kate looks totally fine for 40. Lots of Kate hater here I know, but especially considering how thin she is, her face doesn't look gaunt. William looks like a normal 40 too. 100x better than most 40 yr old dads I know. Sure he lost his hair, but that isn't something he can control. At least he doesn't have a beer gut or dad bod.

Yes, but the cut of the women's clothes is unflattering. The men look amazing in their bespoke suits from Saville Row. The women look shapeless. Look at hot Carole next to dowdy Camilla.

Carole wears stylish clothes that show off her figure - like most Americans. Royals don't show off at all. Except Diana.

I saw a photo of Camilla that was taken during Covid and she was wearing jeans, and you could tell that she actually has a nice figure for her age. Her clothes are clearly custom, so I don’t know why she has them made to be so shapeless. It’s either comfort, or she believes it’s better to look frumpy, considering her history with Charles.

Because she was not raised to show off her body to prove her worth. Plus she can afford to pay for expensive tailored clothes and not to show off her body

They don't wish to be viewed as celebrities, and they like to downplay exactly how rich they are. Hence the lack of plastic surgery and nondescript clothes design (but almost certainly of fine materials).
They actually appear to be aging like their contemporaries. Google "50 year college reunion" to see normal people (ie, not celebrities or that one exceptional person in your neighborhood) and how they age. Charles and Camilla would fit right in.
