Anyone else turning off the Royal coverage?

Love her or hate her she is an iconic figure, the world over. A chapter in history closes with her death.

Go watch some movies about British history/the monarchy and I bet you’ll be surprised at how death (accidental, illness or murder) and abdication (whether voluntary or not) changed history.

Geez, people. Get a clue.

I just took my long morning walk, listened to BBC WORLD on Sirius. And I heard an interview with an American about the death (and career) of Ken Starr. Then they went to a summary of this morning’s pageantry around the Queen.

I find it extremely interesting because it is a link to centuries of history.

This.

History of 21 years ago and history of today. We no longer commemorate Dec. 7 (Pearl Harbor), Nov. 23 (Kennedys assassination). Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, and other holidays are just that, a holiday.

The American commentators get the history wrong.

JFK was assassinated on November 22, not 23.

It is the worst. It is like a cross between the opening ceremony at the Olympics and a Disney parade with 1/2 the characters marching and wearing their costumes and the other 1/2 forced to watch the parade.

The commentators are straight out of Best In Show. They should add some blimps and throw cigarettes, silk stockings and chocolate bars to the crowd.

I'm not following the footage now too closely but--as a singer myself--I will probably watch the funeral next week, just to hear the choral performances. The English choirs are incredible.

Nope, I'm enjoying it. I'll take it over inane nonsense like sports any day.

OP's comment that she was switching off the Queen coverage to watch The Weather channel and then Hoarders was quite amusing. It implied that she was missing serious international news by the Queen's funeral, when she really was watching bread and circus TV.

If only OP could have read the international news on numerous forms of media.
