Anyone else turning off the Royal coverage?

That's what happens if you have the news on all day, silly.
Get your news once a day, and you'll be fine: you'll have updates on Ukraine stabilizing its new front lines, the Dow Jones having a little tantrum, and a little precis of which Royal went where today. Done.

I don’t have cable. Just listen to music or podcasts thru the day. Back when I had cable, it would be ESPN, home improvement or cooking channels for me. I get news from news podcasts and they mostly spend a small segment discussing what is going on in the UK and then move on. I understand that the US has a “special” relationship with the UK but few people here want to watch non-stop coverage of a slow-moving procession.

All I can think of when I hear TV blathering on about the queen is the Sex Pistols... "God save the Queen! The fascist regime!"

Exactly.

Is it going to rain tomorrow? I am going to the British Embasdy yo sign the book of condolence and understand the lines are long to get inside.

I could understand blanket coverage like this in the UK, but I have no idea why American media is covering it so exhaustively. The announcement of her death and that day, ok. The day of her funeral which our President is attending, ok. All this other stuff? No thanks! Didn’t we divorce this institution 246 years ago?

Saw a 13 second clip by a YouTuber of her corpse being driven to Buckingham Palace. The people cheering was disgusting! Not somber at all and really uncouth behaviour.

The non-stop coverage is surprising. I'll be curious to see whether Charles gets the same treatment when his time comes.

But a PP had it right: it's either Donald Trump or the Royals in the news cycle these days, so pick your poison!

Watch C Span. You might actually learn something.

Charles is unlikely to get the wall to wall coverage like this. He’ll get a state funeral and all of the trappings of being king, but she was on the throne for 70 years – we won’t see that again anytime soon.

I have been surprised at the amount of coverage here in the US, but her longevity made her more of a world figure than just a UK one.

I have enjoyed the BBC coverage and the services they broadcasted.

+1 I should not be getting multiple push notifications from news organizations regarding the current location of her coffin.

Lol what? In 2022, with a 24-hour news cycle, the nonstop coverage of the death of a British queen who has reigned for 7 decades and the ascension of her son to the throne is…surprising? I feel like we have not yet even reached the amount of coverage Gabby Petito had.

Was just talking about this. Yes, way too much. People must watch it though!

Now UK is roughing up demonstrators who are protesting the monarchy. They need to decide whether they are a democracy or not.
