The Queen Consort

I cannot believe that he didn’t just pass it along to William. Now Charles might be around another 25 years!

Oh sure, a guy raised in the very traditional British royal family, with an extremely traditional mother who was determined to work till the day she died to fulfill her duty, who grew up hearing the stories of how his mom became Queen as the result of an abdication by her wayward uncle (and the early death of her father), an abdication that was a great disgrace and a really unsavory chapter in the house of Windsor, I mean why wouldn’t that guy just give it to his son for “reasons”. Why because he got a divorce and had an affair? Looked at any British kings of the past lately?

I’ll never get tired of laughing at stupid Americans and what they predict “should” happen.

I like her well enough.

He can kick her out completely unless Charles leaves her one of his properties.

Which he will. He owns Highgrove outright and it's kind of always been their place.

Diana should be queen

You don't know anything about Diana. She was dumb as rocks and having affairs left and right. The only thing she had going for her was that she was tall and pretty.

Camilla's personal estate is less than a mile from Highgrove. I highly doubt he's giving that to anyone else but the Prince of Wales trust just like Balmoral and Sandringham are given to the next monarch.

My bet is that she would not necessarily remain at Clarence House (unless she stayed a working royal). Highgrove and a couple of other properties are part of the duchy of cornwall (so are William's now?), but Charles also inherited a couple of properties from his grandmother in Scotland, those might pass to Camilla. She'll be able to buy real estate wherever she wants.

Highgrove is not part of the Duchy. Charles purchase it with personal funds and owns it personally. I would assume he would leave it to Camilla when he dies, or at least leave it to his children with a “remainder of life” clause for Camilla.

The thing is, if Charles had married Camilla and carried on an affair with Diana, etcetera, no one would have cared. People would be going on about the great love between Charles and Diana that conquered all, and Camilla would be a dead hag.

Diana benefitted immensely from being young and “beautiful”. I personally don’t think she was notably more attractive than Camilla, but the public tends to blindly believe what it is told.

People can go on about adultery and the “people’s princess” until they’re blue in the face, but if the women’s roles were reversed, people would’ve forgotten about Camilla twenty years ago.

It’s all so phony.

Wrong. Highgrove is owned personally - it’s not a crown property. Same as Anne’s home. The Queen bought it personally and gave to Anne.

Brit reading this and I agree! Extremely weird!

What makes you think all of the posters in this thread are Americans? There are at least two of you posting here who apparently aren't...

I am a dual citizen living in DC. I read DCUM all the time and this thread was in recent topics. Just stopped by to see what you guys are thinking about this.. and it's weird! Sorry, not sorry.

Anne's home was bought by the Queen as a present for Anne as she was pregnant. Highgrove was always intended as a marital country home for the Prince and Princess of Wales. It was also purchased using Duchy of Cornwall funds. But if he gives it to Camilla - no problem.

What personal funds? Charles HAS no personal funds. Everything he got came from the Duchy of Cornwall.

Point is, the house is not owned by the Duchy or the Crown. He owns it personally and can leave it to whomever he likes.

NP. A quick google search reveals that Highgrove is indeed part of the Duchy of Cornwall.

I tend to agree with this. Camilla was the older, less conventionally attractive one. THe roles would usually be reversed.
