The Queen Consort

She put the “consort” in “queen consort” and I’ll never use any title when referring to Camilla. Pure trash.

Also, I am watching the BBC and the crowd was amazing. Quiet and respectful with shouts of God Save the King. It’s something Americans don’t understand and that fine and preferred. We live in a Republic. We should find the whole thing weird. That’s why we live here and not there. But no major party in the UK has ever run on a platform that includes ending the monarchy and they won’t. They’d have to change the entire makeup of the country and government. It would be expensive and time consuming. It’s too embedded in the culture. It would be like starting a whole new country. Won’t happen in our lifetimes, sorry.

The culture is changing. This is the Prime Minister of the UK who took office 3 days ago.

He can kick her out completely unless Charles leaves her one of his properties.

You’re talking about William? He’s not going to do that. They’re quite close now.

And it seems like she and Kate are close too. The kids look at her as a grandmother (and it looks like she really loves them) so I think William will make sure she is taken care of. I actually think he treats her better than her own kids do (not that they don't have a good reason but that's another issue).

I never understood the disdain for Camilla. Did they handle the situation well? No, of course not. But that was years ago and she "destroyed" a marriage that was doomed from the get-go. They're just two people who loved one another and finally said, screw it, we want to be together. Good for them--they seem really happy. And Diana wanted out of royal life anyway. Awful that it ended the way it did but Camilla didn't kill her.

This. Whatever about his personal life. Being King is about being a figurehead and devoting life to service. Charles will be, objectively, good at that. I've always admired his work in climate change, even when people thought he was crazy and "hippy dippy." I admire his work with the Jewish community and communities of all different faiths and his wish to change his title from "Defender of The Faith" to "Defender of Faith." I hugely admire The Prince's Trust and can objectively see the good work that's come out of it.

Lol. Yea, and? Do you see her saying that now? Do you see the TORIES of all people saying this? She might still personally believe that but it won't be part of her party's platform.

I think end of a marriage on its own is very different than when a third person is involved. It’s Charles’ fault on how it was handled but the whole thing left a bad taste. You lose respect in that kind of a situation.

The point is those are the words of the sitting Prime Minister. Which is pretty undeniable.

Sure. She undeniably said those words. I'm just saying that the British monarchy is different than any other monarchy in the world. And if the Spanish monarchy is still standing... the BRF isn't going anywhere any time soon. You're free to believe me or not. I'm just some anonymous internet person.

The Spanish King was forced to abdicate 7 years ago because of all the scandals. Weird choice to put them as some sort of example.

Sometimes I really wonder about people's reading comprehension. That's... exactly what I'm saying.

For Camilla after Charles goes, remember the Queen Mother. She had what looked to be a great life, joining her daughter for various public and family events, lots of cocktails, and not working too hard. True, Camilla is not William’s mother and nobody knows how he really feels about her, but he’s too smart to openly disrespect her.

So basically the only major throne rivaling Britain's is on such shaky ground that a King who was revered after the world wars was forced out and the U.K. just lost the only royal figure which had universal adoration but you'll think they'll just be fine?

Okay.

Camilla is a backdoor trollop. The Queen Mother was given Clarence House and a castle in Scotland because she was the birth mother of the Queen. You ever heard the adage daughters take care of their mothers?

No one's taking care of Camilla if Charles kicks the bucket tomorrow. She has the house in the middle of nowhere though.

Oh my god, no. Jesus. They don't rival each other at all. I'm saying they had a ton of scandal and the Spanish monarchy is pretty damn unpopular, probably the most unpopular of all the European monarchies, the Queen herself is a former republican, yet still they stand. The monarchy is way more popular in the UK. So they're not going anywhere.
