Someone doesnt know how lithium and other battery metals are mined, what their replacement cost is, or what happens to them after they die in 10 years. Our electrical grid couldn't even handle 50% of househould having an EV right now.


EVs are the rapidly approaching future but the bs and spin does a disservice to everyone.

Stupid. Do you worry about running out of gas? No? Then why would you worry about running out of charge?

I'm a republican and I reject the premise of this thread. Nevertheless, there are plenty of reasons to choose an EV over a gas powered vehicle that have nothing to do with environment, and the first one is that I never go to a gas station. Gas stations are scuzzy, stinky, and gross. The bathrooms are covered in grime and urine and the food makes Burger King look like a premium meal. I almost never go to a gas station. I say almost because occasionally I have to use a charger at a Wawa or something.

Second, most of my charging occurs in my own garage. I never have to leave early to get gas.

Third, I never take my car in for repairs. They come to me.

Finally, I can choose a setting that makes my car honk fart sounds. Your gas car cant do that.

My mother and father had an irrational fear of electric cars before they rode in mine. I’m guessing elderly are especially susceptible to the right wing fear-mongering propaganda. And my parents don’t even watch the news — I think it was just crazy unfounded stuff they heard from boomer friends.

One thing that stands out, in their head the charging was super complex and expensive. When I showed them you simply plug it in at home once in a while — even with a standard plug! — they felt pretty silly.

I'm on my second electric vehicle.

I had the first one for about 18 years (replaced one battery)

Now I have the Prius Prime which I bought about a year
before covid struck.

OMG talk about spin. You have no clue what you are talking about. lithium extraction is no where near at hazardous, environmental damaging or CO2 producing vs the oil industry. Just look at Deepwater Horizon. Do you have any idea of how many toxic chemicals are in oil? Deepwater Horizon was just one of many. You could mine lithium for all the cars in the US for the next 100 years and the damage done by just one of these massive oils spill would be worst.
