Why do staunch republicans hate electric vehicles?

They will when Chinese EVs cost half of what "American" ones do.

If true, another argument against EVs:

Having your vehicle remotely disabled is going to be a huge hurdle for people to overcome.

Maybe it’s a mining, rare earth metal, and waste thing.
Plus makes those vehicles weigh 150% more than they should.

Just keep raising the tariffs on them until they cost the same as US EVs. Win-win makes progressives happy and reduces the deficit.

The BYD EV cars are cute, little and cost about $10,000. They could decimate American car manufacturers.

It is a fantasy.
In 2001, the Los Angeles Times wrote that EVs “will quickly and easily take precedence over all other” vehicles.
In 2011, the New York Times described EVs as the “ideal solution.”
In 2015, the Washington Post predicted that “prices on electric cars will continue to drop until they are within reach of the average family.”

Here we are now and after an initial round of sales to the wealthier buyers, EVs turn out to be a niche market once again. This is despite the government shelling out around ten thousand in subsidies per car. Tesla makes money off sales of Audis and BMWs because of government mandates.

Also, those headlines above? They are not from 2001,2011,2015 but instead 1901,1911,1915.

Isn’t Elon Musk a republican?

The only car sales that are growing are EVs. The gas power cars sales are way down. Negative year over year.

Over the weekend the EU had a contentious vote to put a 45% tariff on Chinese EVs. Guess EVs will remain large, expensive status vehicles in the EU as they are here.

Republicans do not have a problem with EVs, they have a problem with govt saying, You are going to drive one whether you like it or not.

Wow is that your take? Chinese EVs starting price is about $10,000 or €9,100 with a range of 330 miles. So a Chinese EV in Europe will cost about $15,000. The EU was pushing for 100% tariff to protect their markets. The Chinese are light years ahead of the US and European car makers in terms of EVs. Europeans have banned the sale of new ICE vehicles by 2035(so has California). Maybe they stick it or roll back to give more time by that will really reduce the demand for oil.

Too bad the US has a 100%. The mid to upper Chinese EVs would be priced in the $30-50k range. Those cars surpass Tesla S model and Porsche macon.

This has nothing to do with electric vehicles. Biden-Harris administration mandated a kill switch for all cars.
There was a vote in Congress to eliminate the kill switch, and it didn't pass.

No not as they are here. Europe has lots of models much more expensive than Tesla. $200,000 and up.

I have very little confidence a $10K Chinese EV could meet US safety standards. Tariffs aren't the only reason Chinese vehicles aren't competitive in the US.
