mine is one of them. She swam every day for 5 weeks over the summer for 90 mins plus rec swimming as well… walks the dog about 20 mins 3x a week, hikes, does martial arts, climbs trees, goes to playgrounds etc….. she got her period in June. Sample day/today 2 eggs on a mini bagel and 2 halos for breakfast, almond milk to drink. Lunch, turkey and cheese on WG bread ( 2 slices) bowl of watermelon, few chips. Juice box. Dinner, chicken noodle soup with rotisserie chicken, carrots and celery, small bowl of blueberries. Water to drink. Snacks, sandwich bag size of popcorn and a Lara bar…… she is perfectly healthy. This was today but pretty typical for a normal day. |
People have different body types, and it doesn’t magically happen as an adult. My oldest son is tall and slim. 5’11”, maybe 125. My youngest is 5’ even, and weighs 100 pounds. He is BUILT, like a strong safety. At 10. He just has always had a bunch of muscle packed onto his frame. He weighed more than or just as much as his older brother for years. Both perfectly healthy, just completely different body types. |
My 10 year old was nearly 90 pounds and very thin. I find it hard to believe that if she put on around 10 more lbs she would have been unhealthy. You are clueless. |
Don't feel the need to defend your child to this clown. |
| My tall 10 year old weighs 105 pounds |
I was full grown by 12 and never had a "skinny phase" so I probably weighed close to 100 at 10. At 50, I am maybe an inch taller than I was in middle school and 5 pounds heavier (115 pounds and 5'4). Kids follow all sorts of growth patterns and there is a large range that is normal. |
No. My 11 year old is 77 pounds, tall and thin but not VERY thin. So someone a year younger and 13 pounds heavier is not “very thin.” |
Extremely common for GIRLS to be done growing by 6th grade. |
You have no idea how talk her kid is. You seem really invested in having a skinny kid. Its not a badge of honor. M |
+1 what a stupid thread. Go look at some actual data... https://www.who.int/tools/growth-reference-data-for-5to19-years/indicators/weight-for-age-5to10-years |
No, it’s in fact burned into my brain, I recall everyone in my 4th grade friend group sharing our weights. And I lied and said 79 bc I was too embarrassed to say 90, since they were all 70s, or less. A year later I was 100lb (at 10, mid 5th). Trust me, these are details those of us who are outside the average don’t usually forget. I was 5’8” and a size 7 juniors in high school, so not big |
Maybe your 11 yo is not nearly as tall or muscular as the PP’s 10 yo. Kids at this age are all over the map heightwise, as other posters have commented. And there are gender differences with bone and muscular density too. |
I can’t believe how small so many of these 10 year olds are. It sounds unhealthy
-Parent to 3 kids who are over the 99th percentile |
| Sigh. Fat shaming starts so young. |
+1 million |
