VHSL Girls Lacrosse Spring 2023

They did this while playing easy schedules and avoiding the best teams the past several seasons. They got the message this year and improved their schedule. The problem is they did it a year late and they scheduled teams this year who will not field teams anywhere near what they were just a year ago. To top it off while claiming they belong with the elite they didn’t schedule any top private schools like other top public teams have done this year and last.

I’m sure Battlefield will have a good team. But they will not get a lot of credit this year for beating teams that were once good. Worse for them if they lose any of these games they will catch more grief. And their region will not earn them any respect. Regardless of who they play this season they should have a cakewalk to states. Lots of pressure on them this year. Lose to any Ffx teams who will be having down years compared to past and their claims of being a top team will fall on deaf ears.

Which public schools are playing which private schools? Anyone playing Visi SR or SSSA?

Yorktown is playing Potomac and SSSA and scrimmaging PVI. Not Visi.

I’ll take that bet!

Bet on them making States or not winning games? What teams will they beat?

Falls Church
Langley
Madison
Centreville

Probably a win against Falls Church.

The rest are Ls. Didn't they lose to Centreville last year with a better team than this year?

Battlefield had that game in hand didn’t mean a thing to them. Last game pouring down rain. Played to stay healthy for district tournament. But no wat taking the grittiness of Centreville on comeback win. This team looks just as good as last years. Key is loaded at key positions with players who are now experienced. 2 top tier goalies help out young defense. Just hope it all comes together for them because they have been working very hard after experiencing states last year. They are hungry.

Sounds like a lot of excuses. It was raining, game didn't matter, blah blah. If they had the game in hand, they would have won. They lost to all the Fairfax county schools last year including the Blowout by Yorktown.

Maybe I’m throwing out excuses but we didn’t give a damn about the game. I applaud Centerville’s grittiness and their comeback. Their crowd and their girls were in it like they were winning a championship new year new players will see what’s in the cards.

Oh, and I forgot my other excuse they took the lead and stalled for over nine minutes.

This is why high school lax games need shot clock. 9 min stall is ridiculous.

Hey the game just didn’t matter. Then why were those tears after the game?

Those weren’t tears those were raindrops on our cheeks!!!

Or girls need to learn to play defense. No one should be able to hold the ball for 9 minutes at the HS level. If CV did that to Battlefield, they were clearly the better team then.

Well, from some of the battlefield parents in the parking lot before and especially after, you’d think they cared. 😂

From crowing about how this was a walk over and already a win to cursing, throwing gear and complaining about any and everything that might have caused the loss.

We went to scout battlefield for an future game and left laughing at the battlefield parents.

Oakton this year, but make no bones about it, it's the only year they have a shot at states as they have nothing coming up in the pipeline after their core senior group graduates and will suffer for years. They have 2 very good middies but it will boil down to how well the coach understands his players strengths and weaknesses and of course not riding his players into the ground to prevent injury.

^ This. Over the years I've seen too many HS coaches run their studs into the ground in the regular season to have them injured and worn down come tournament time. Generally those that balance and protect their "stars" do the best in the end.

Why didn’t the battlefield coaches use all their timeouts, were they saving them for the next time they played Centerville.
Why didn’t the battlefield coaches pull the goalie for two minutes to have her reset and see what was happening out there.

Dominion did graduate a very good senior class though. They had a D3 player, and 2 D1 players (one who was the best player in 4A). I still think they are good, but their '23 class is not as good as the '22 class in my opinion. Furthermore, what would have been their best '24 transferred to PVI. For example, not a single '24 is committed to go D1. By the time the lax season started last year, they had 2 23's who were committed to go D1. Dominion is a great team and I do think they'll do good, but I do think they fall off a bit from last year.

Outside this 6A seems up for grabs. In 5A Riverside’s best days are behind them. In 4A Dominion has one year left before their program drops off.

Where will the two Yorktown players be?

If Cville stalled for 9 minutes as mentioned that’s not on them for being able to do it. It’s on Battlefield for not attacking and shutting down the stall.

Sounds like battlefield got beat and parents are grasping for reasons why they got beat.

Got to find the video of that game now. 😂

Watched some highlights of the battlefield/ Cville game from last year and it’s a good game. At one point battlefield was was up by 5 and the half score was 7 4 battlefield. Second half, Cville came out and just tore through battlefield and final was 11 - 9 Cville. 7 point swing and limiting battlefield to 2 in the second half. Really, someone talked about Cville stalling but that was fluff. The Cville girl standing at X with the ball Undefended and scratched her butt and no defender even came back? That’s on battlefield.
Cville were waiting for them and it looked like they could have run up the score but played for a win and not a clubbering.

Out played and out coached.
