Unpopular driving opinions?

Your car should never, ever go in this area. Just miss your turn - it's ok. It's much, much safer than pulling some last second maneuver. If you have ever taken your car in this area more than once, you should turn your license in and just stop driving. It's really idiotic and dangerous.

I'm reminded of a saying I learned from my parents, who taught me how to drive; good drivers sometimes miss their exits, but bad drivers never do.

You can identify how horrible a driver is, by how they walk/bike. And vice versa.

If you're that person who cuts people off on your bike, you're probably the same person weaving in and out of roads.

If you're the person who walks on the left distracted on your phone, you probably drive slow in the left lane and use your phone while driving.

If you drive slow in the left lane, you probably drive your grocery cart all over the store and leave it parked on the left while you wander.

2. Don't use your horn in anger.

3. Don't tailgate EVER. Leave a car length between the car ahead of you for each 10MPH.

Me, I don't think speeding is dangerous by default. The details matter. 80 on the highway? If you're alert, it's perfectly fine. 80 on a local road? Um, no. If it's 35, 45 can be totally safe. IF it's 45, 60 can be fine.

There are TONS of unsafe "slow" (or speed limit) drivers who are distracted, do not have good control, and are unsafe. I say this as someone who's lived car-less for many years, and still lives in a highly walkable area (and walks a lot myself). The person going speed limit but on a hands free phone call, is WAY more distracted than someone going 15 over, but fully present.

What's your unpopular driving opinion?

Marylanders drive just fine.

I'll add a PSA to Maryland drivers: wanting to change lanes is not the same thing as right of way.

Not this old thing again..Plenty of other state drivers also do this. so keep your chessy grin

Speed and red light cameras are good. Think it's strange this is apparently a controversial opinion. We have too many unsafe drivers in DC - if you don't want a ticket just follow the traffic rules!

When you’re in a residential area, you do not need to go 10miles over the speed limit. I don’t understand why people speed in their own neighborhoods. Especially in DC’s crazy roads.

Not the same but related, Idaho stops are stupid and super dangerous. They should be illegal.

A related PSA to Maryland drivers, someone signaling a lane change is not issuing a personal challenge that must be met

Similar if you are stopping to wave me to turn left in front of you on a road where others can pass on your right. I don't trust those other drivers to stop (many will go flying around you) and I can't see them very well around your car. I'd rather wait for the traffic to clear and/or where I can see clearly. They think they're being nice and helpful, but it's super frustrating and dangerious.

Yes! I also hate it when cars behind me honk the horn because they think it is safe to go but, I don't. have some patience people!

+1000 I HATE YOU PEOPLE
Most of you can't do it well so you take freakin 3x's as long to park in the space than if you just pulled in. Meanwhile I find a space 2 down from you and are out me car and in the store and you're still trying to park (this is just funny), but the worst is if we are both looking for a space in a lot and I'm behind you, I see a space but assume you are going to get it, you pass it, so just when I think I'm getting it, you stop to start backing in. UGH! Now I have to back up and hope someone wasn't behind me so the whole line of us are screwed because you want to "pull out faster" I HATE YOU PEOPLE!

This would be solved if they put on a turning signal.....but they wont because consideration isnt in their DNA

And who pull out of their space faster?

Blocking intersections may help you for a few seconds, but it makes traffic so, so, so much worse. If you block the box, you are a complete ahole.

Many of you really need to take keys away from your elderly parents.

I was in Alexandria today, driving 8MPH on a 25mph road. That was their max accelerated speed after stop signs. That's less than 1/3 of the posted speed limit. Slow does NOT mean you're a safe driver. It means you severely lack control of your vehicle and situational awareness.
