Unpopular driving opinions?

Idling doesn’t harm your car at all. It’s actually the second-least “work” (in terms of thermodynamic output) your car is capable of. The first being in-gear and coasting down a long hill/mountain grade.

But it’s not harming the car at all.

If you buy cars you don't drive or trade them in for needlessly bigger cars, I'm not going to play considerate with street parking.

Yep I'm leaving 6 feet between myself and the next car, because I can.

Sorry for your inadequacy and insecurities. Buy a more normal sized car next time.

People are idiots. I’ve never had to use my horn as much as I have had to driving here

+1

When I hear Md criticize VA drivers, and vice versa - I find it hilarious, since both sets are awful drivers.

I was taught that no one has the right of way at a 4 way stop intersection.

No problem at all.

I can just drop the transfer case into Low Range, carefully put my bumper against yours, and easily push your car forwards or backwards to make more room.

Americans drive too much. Period. I wish we were more like the Netherlands. It is not uncommon for people, including kids, to ride their bikes up to 10 miles each way to work or school.

But they're awful in difference ways!

Me, I don't think speeding is dangerous by default. The details matter. 80 on the highway? If you're alert, it's perfectly fine. 80 on a local road? Um, no. If it's 35, 45 can be totally safe. IF it's 45, 60 can be fine.

There are TONS of unsafe "slow" (or speed limit) drivers who are distracted, do not have good control, and are unsafe. I say this as someone who's lived car-less for many years, and still lives in a highly walkable area (and walks a lot myself). The person going speed limit but on a hands free phone call, is WAY more distracted than someone going 15 over, but fully present.

What's your unpopular driving opinion?

OP, please tell us how many accidents and tickets you have had in your driving lifetime.

1. The speed limit sign is the upper limit of speed for optimal weather conditions. Drive at or below the speed limit, especially in rain/snow/fog.

2. Don't use your horn in anger.

3. Don't tailgate EVER. Leave a car length between the car ahead of you for each 10MPH.

-Accident and ticket free for 20 years

There are flights to Holland multiple times a day. Enjoy your bike. Don’t let the screen door hit you.

This may be different, but aren’t you supposed to yield to the person on the left if you think you got there at the same time?
