Unpopular driving opinions?

in parking lots, if you see that somebody is trying to get out of their space, you should let them.

If someone is in the process of backing out of their driveway (as in, they are mostly in the street and transitioning to moving forward) let them finish what they are doing. I’ve seen too many people zoom around these folks. Unsafe.

Thank you. I live on a busier road and even when traffic is stopped at the light in front of my house and I am half way backed out, drivers will cross the double yellow as soon as the light is green to prevent me from completing getting out of my driveway. It’s so frustrating and unsafe.

I think ALL new cars should be required to have one of those breathalyzer things, before cars start. We have other required safety measures - why not this?

Letting someone in when they made a mistake and are in the wrong lane, is the WRONG thing to do.

Let them miss their turn/exit/etc and turn around. That is the safest thing you can do, and the kindest thing you can do for everyone else on the road.

I don't buy the "safer" argument, because people are still walking through the parking lot as you're taking forever to back in. I'd argue it's more unsafe, because you spend more time moving your vehicle in a parking lot with moving people. Because backing in takes so damn long.

People who back into spaces are psychopaths.

I'm convinced they do so because they recognize the evil in their hearts. They park like that because they are always looking for the quickest escape. They know - at the core of their being - that they are criminals.

It's cultural, and you sound racist.

I think you should be able to linger in the left lane on a two way road (like a parkway). If you want to pass, nothing stopping you from passing on the right.

You didn't know there's a certain demographic who backs in? PP's comments are gross.

Other than the rules of the road of course. Did you even pass the test?

Me, I don't think speeding is dangerous by default. The details matter. 80 on the highway? If you're alert, it's perfectly fine. 80 on a local road? Um, no. If it's 35, 45 can be totally safe. IF it's 45, 60 can be fine.

There are TONS of unsafe "slow" (or speed limit) drivers who are distracted, do not have good control, and are unsafe. I say this as someone who's lived car-less for many years, and still lives in a highly walkable area (and walks a lot myself). The person going speed limit but on a hands free phone call, is WAY more distracted than someone going 15 over, but fully present.

What's your unpopular driving opinion?

If you crash diving 55 and crash driving 80 there is a big difference.

Racist? WTF? If this is "racist" then everything is racist. Backing into parking spaces is cultural? Which culture are you talking about? The inconsiderate car culture?

Don't bring your giant SUV into DC if you can't drive it properly and not hog the whole road or block alleys and side streets while you wait in your car pool line

If you need to use the phone or do anything except drive, pull over!! I HATE seeing people go 10 in a 25 because they're on the phone, eating, putting on make up, etc.

I believe this

annoying af.

I just saw a woman do this at a Target and hold up traffic in the parking lot when she could have pulled through empty spaces in front of her and achieved the same result without holding up traffic.

What is the point of this? It's something I used to never see but now see regularly.
