Would you be ticked off if a restaurant refused to serve you a cocktail for no ID?

This. I am amazed at the combination of ignorance and righteousness of the most PP. The law is about serving minors, not carding.

Folks are piling on and using disinformation to do so because this forum is full of bitter hoi polloi who like to see a presumably UMC Karen get knocked down a notch.

I’m having a hard time believing this is real. Don’t we all have bigger things to worry about than being denied a Margarita? The server was doing her job. As she should. Move on.

No. It's up to you to provide ID.

If we get pulled over and get a ticket, we pay it without complaining to the officer. See how that works?

It’s actually not the law. They only have to card people they think look 25 or less. Unless this woman legitimately thought OP looked 25 or less, she could have served her anyway. This happened to me a few times around 30 and I was a little bit annoyed, but realized that I could reasonably be guessed to be in my early 20s so got over it. If OP is 40+, she has a right to be a bit annoyed that the server made a big thing out of this.

Or:
This forum is filled with people who don’t condone nonsense. The server was 100% correct. Why should she jeopardize her job because some entitled person demands a margarita?
Anonymous
This is at the server’s discretion then.

My suspicion: OP is a regular/repeat customer with a rep for being a PITA - as demonstrated above.

It’s likely misinformation, not disinformation, people make erroneous claims about the law all the time on DCUM without realizing it. But it’s likely the rule of the restaurant— if you owned a restaurant, wouldn’t you make it a blanket rule to check all id’s rather than rely on the discretion and judgment of the bartenders, some of whom may be 21 themselves. It’s the only thing that will protect you from the law about not serving minors, and better to lose the occasional sale from people like OP rather than leave it up to bartenders to decide who does and does not need an id.

Sure, OP shouldn't have been mad at the server, but the PPs who keep shouting its the law are wrong about that in most states. Bar policy, likely, but not the law.

It's weird because of your age, but I wouldn't be ticked off because if there's an inspector in the restaurant that night, the server could lose their job. I've seen it happen.

WRONG!

NO NO NO NO NO. For God's sake NO! Ewwwww.

I agree with the non bolded.

Went to bar to pick up to-go food and asked her to add two classic margaritas to the order while we wait. When she declined to give me one, we just tipped her a few bucks. Should have stiffed her but we didn’t.

Who TF cares if they were “classic” margaritas or not? You sound very off, OP.

I'm sorry it triggered you. I wanted to emphasize we were ordering an adult cocktail, so as to not be confused with say a colorful huge slush margarita, which is maybe something an underage kid would order.

Well, yeah I sincerely doubt they thought you were undergrads regardless of your drink order. Lots of establishments require that employees ID even when people look well over the legal age to drink. They would rather be safe than sorry and lose their license. This can’t be new information. You are are being ridiculous.

+1 This is really what you want to waste your time whining about OP? Just bring your license the next time. You sound dim and overprivileged.
