Would you be ticked off if a restaurant refused to serve you a cocktail for no ID?

Why are you taking this personally? It’s not a big deal, they have every right to check IDs before serving alcohol.

All the "it's the LAW" people here are too much. Let me guess, none of you ever drive over the speed limit either, right?

While on the way, husband recommends a classic margarita. Great idea and I actually look forward to it. Female bartender who was probably just as old as us cards me! Implying we just graduated from high school two years ago? Our own kids are in middle and high school. She refuses to serve me, then when she goes to the back to get our food loudly tells the other bartender I don’t have ID and to not serve me alcohol.

I hated serving people like you. Its the law. The liquor boards will send people to test bartenders and servers and they can lose their jobs and the business their license. You should applaud this person for being a law-abiding citizen. Next time put your ID in your pocket or your husbands wallet.

Thanks barfly.

+1 It's the law. If you're so badly in need of a drink, bring your license (or check if you might have some issues with alcohol abuse).

Went to bar to pick up to-go food and asked her to add two classic margaritas to the order while we wait. When she declined to give me one, we just tipped her a few bucks. Should have stiffed her but we didn’t.

Who TF cares if they were “classic” margaritas or not? You sound very off, OP.

I'm sorry it triggered you. I wanted to emphasize we were ordering an adult cocktail, so as to not be confused with say a colorful huge slush margarita, which is maybe something an underage kid would order.

Well, yeah I sincerely doubt they thought you were undergrads regardless of your drink order. Lots of establishments require that employees ID even when people look well over the legal age to drink. They would rather be safe than sorry and lose their license. This can’t be new information. You are are being ridiculous.

Oh yeah, I’m the one who’s triggered!

The last time this happened to me, I was over 30 and I definitely look my age. It was annoying. I assume when this happens it's usually because they got busted recently and are being super strict in response.

When I was a bartender, I carded EVERYONE.

It's not the law.
The law is that they can't serve someone under 21. It is not the law that the customer has to have their ID. Perhaps it's the rule of the restaurant. It is not the law.

If this is OP, maybe it's time for AA. Holy shit.

I’d be mad at myself for not taking my ID.

Your one time in life to flex some power.

If they didn't card a 40 year old, and ABC were standing right there, they would not have been in trouble because they did not serve a minor.

This. I am amazed at the combination of ignorance and righteousness of the most PP. The law is about serving minors, not carding.
