Too bad. This could have been riveting.

+1.

I was not interested in the reporter or her story at all. I found her exasperating and annoying, and the (many, many) scenes where she groaned and knelt and clutched her pregnant belly were cringe-worthy. I wanted to forward through all of the boring scenes about the reporter and her backstory or her relationships with her husband and coworkers.

The story would have been better without her character.

Me too. FF all reporter stuff and not a lot of insight into anna. Wasted opportunity. Hope someone does a remake which is good.

I disagree - I thought Vivian's character was essential here - it's a story within a story plot. You can't just leave it out. Also, I wonder if this is generational or based on what you typically watch. The actress playing Vivian is Anna Chlumsky - who is famous for My Girl and Veep. There is no one under 40 who doesn't immediately recognize her.

I know who Anna Chlumsky is: what’s your point? Do you think that just because she’s a recognisable name, her role is good? I still think the reporter character and her story distracting, boring, and unnecessary, but if you want me to give recognition to Anna Chlumsky, OK. Anna Chlumsky “overacted” her scenes, relying too much on that stupid face-scrunching thing she does in almost every scene. Anna Chlumsky scrunches up her face and widens her eyes repeatedly, as if she is still relying on the cutesie gestures that were adorable and appropriate when she played Veda in My Girl. The face scrunching is not cute anymore. It does not carry the character. And Anna Chlumsky looks rough and old for only being 41. Happy?

Wow. Let's see what you look like, shall we? It's one thing to criticize her acting but to criticize how she looks is pretty sad and gross.

This is an oddly angry response to a difference of opinion.

There are annoying things about the Vivian character for sure, but I would rather see this unfold as a story within a story instead of a linear storyline. I'm also enjoying the other writers teaching her tips and tricks to make the story work (whether that's true to life or not).

The writers in Scriberia were so helpful. Wish my coworkers actively tried to help me succeed like that!

I agree. The real Rachel was way younger and prettier. It made sense that she had all these instagram followers. The real Anna wasn't as good looking though

I like it…binged the first 3 episodes.

The problem I had with the journalist part are all the ethical lines she crossed, but am a journalist so I guess it hit different for me.

No, an actor’s appearance is very relevant to character, actually. A film (or series) is a piece of art; every part of it contributes something to the work as a whole. You don’t choose to ignore part of the canvas because you think it wouldn’t be kind. Chlumsky and the producers who made this abysmal casting choice are professionals and are aware that their choices are up for critique.

And yes, I am prettier than Anna Chlumsky by almost any person’s standards. I suspect she is a heavy smoker: it really shows in her face and skin.

Anonymous wrote:I only knew headlines about this story. I watched the first ep and kept waiting for it to get good or interesting. It never did, so I thought the end of ep 1 was going to be this great bombshell. That also didn't happen. It was very cringey when the reporter kept talking about how IMPORTANT HER CAREER WAS TO HER and how clear they made it that she is not super into having the baby that's about to pop out. The fight with the editors was so cliche, too. I may keep trying if I am very bored.

Yes!! I'm on episode 3 and cannot stand the reporter. We get it, this is an important story to you...but even if you're not too excited/focused on having a baby soon, at least a little respect and compassion for your husband who is trying to enjoy the moment and has vocalized his frustrations.

As a new mom with a very demanding career, I feel like this was such a one-dimensional perspective on being a woman/mother/wife/career person.

Yes, we all have teams of people at work with nothing to do except fawn on us and help us with projects.

Skipping to the end here with one more episode to go. I like the show but the main actress for Anna has unfortunately not attractive lips. That’s all you see with those huge sunglasses. Also her hair is usually bad which would have been a tip off to the rich. Older rich people may have sketchy hair but younger rich people. No.

Such an ugly American response.

I'm wondering if that's part of the role? Because her looks are noticeably unretouched, shall we say? I'm wondering if Rhimes did that intentionally to further emphasize that she's not a part of this rich world. Like, everyone is all made up and perfect and she's the plucky girl reporter (who is a woman, who is about to have a baby)!
