This is the reaction from teachers and staff. I would be happy too for a no work pay day. Unfortunately, I have to pay for childcare and drive through rain today. Same for most MCPS parents.

How is that any different than in previous years?

Wrong. DP. I’m a parent.

😻😹πŸ’ͺπŸ™πŸ‘πŸ˜ indeed.
I am happy too. We have HS kids who are sleeping in.

Do you think they will start considering having school on 2/1 now?

They should not count on a waiver, and it doesnΒ΄t help HS students at all to tack on a day at the end of June.

Seems to have been some conflicting texts? Anyone else experience that? Heads must be rolling at mcps headquarters!

Stop. Maybe wishful thinking, but they are CLOSED. Didn’t you receive multiple text alerts and emails? Have you read the EMERGENCY MESSAGE on the MCPS website?

Why in the world aren't we pivoting to virtual learning? I teach high school and it's the end of the semester. Virtual school is better than no school.

Agree. Plus my kids were supposed to have tests today which could have raised their grades for the semester.

Blame the governer. He said virtual days will not count

I think they would say it's too late to make that change now, but they should have considered it at the last board meeting when we already had two known days to make up (now we have three).

Staff member here. So happy to have this "snow" day! Receiving messages several days per week that I have been around a kid who tested positive for Covid has gotten really old. I'll gladly trade in one of our scheduled days off later this semester for a day away from everyone right now.

Are you a Kindergarten parent? Early elementary parent? Do you really think MCPS would call for a day off school then an hour later switch it to a 2 hour delay? You don't realize that text was sent out by mistake?

I'm glad one of my HS DD's teacher emailed her students and said she will still hold a test for them today from 1-2.

This is also why I'm okay with MCPS calling snow days/delays at 5 am instead of the night before.

WTF? How is the teacher allowed to do that?
