Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
|
We’ve only had rain way up here in Brookeville.
|
| MCPS said yesterday it would reassess the two-hour delay at 7 am. At 7 am, the current rain (vs snow / sleet) was in play, forecasts had been revised, and prospects for bad conditions considerably upgraded. WTF with closing? The “conditions” were worse Tuesday with cold weather and ice remaining from the weekend snow! Didn’t close then. |
Yes it’s rain now but it’s going to turn to snow |
| Some major districts in the area are beginning to implement virtual snow days, including Fairfax and PG. We have now used three more snow days than the two built into the calendar. Why in the world aren't we pivoting to virtual learning? I teach high school and it's the end of the semester. Virtual school is better than no school. |
You’re kidding, right? Not even worth an explanation lol. |
You are kidding right? Ask your HS student what they think of virtual. Most kids will log on but play games on the side, etc. Even college kids hate virtual. |

it.is.raining
HS and Middle School kids would already be at school |
Early start? Spoken by an elementary school parent obviously |
|
DP. Pp has a point. Perhaps we close high schools but have the elementary schools open earlier. |
ES wouldn't. I'm in Rockville, and I doubt it will snow here. But, I don't know what it will be like upcounty. Even so, MCPS has never closed before because of light snow during the school day once kids are in the school. IMO, this is because of omicron. Rain = can't eat lunch outside. It's one thing to eat outside when it's cold, but can't do that when it's raining. |
| I just checked the weather and while the snow is delayed they are calling for 1 inch. |
Or normal start. The snow won’t start accumulating by 9 am. It’s 40 outside! And it would all melt by the dismissal time. |
Aren’t the HS kids the ones who have end of semester tests and under more of a time crunch? If anything it would make more sense to close ES (yea, you need to secure childcare) and have MS/HS be virtual. However, this would require a governor who didn’t threaten to not count virtual days as instructional (yes, he’s backtracking now but can’t put the toothpaste back into the tube). Maybe the next one will have more vision. |
Oh no! 1 inch! We're snowed in!! This January has been a complete loss educationally. We're done with MCPS. |
