You do not understand the logistics of managing one or two campuses versus the logistics of managing 200 campuses?

I do, but I am sure something could be done. e.g. kids bring home chrome books every day, back and forth each day. So, they should then do virtual learning. This is a joke!

I thought we all hated virtual learning with a passion. It is completely useless

Nope.

+100. Most of you live in La La land.
There is a bus driver shortage and many recent hires who might be inexperienced in winter weather conditions. Weather forecasting is hardly an exact science. If weather ended up being bad and one bus got stuck or had an accident, everyone would have jumped on MCPS casting blame. Also, some teachers who live in other districts would have not come in and there are no subs. Also, Covid is still an issue. Sorry that you are inconvenienced but grow up already.

What does that mean???? No in person learning? Or is the teacher ill and no sub?

Sounds strange!

No, this is for the 16 that went virtual. One day teacher preparation and Monday off means school on Tuesday. Come on, people

We’re part of the 16. We get a 5 day weekend, followed by virtual instruction for the rest of next week, but we can’t travel or visit relatives because that defeats the purpose of going virtual. It’s depressing.

??? If you're getting punished with virtual, you should be taking advantage to travel if you can.

Grow so very, very much up.

seems to me that MCPS leadership should be charged for fraud. Wednesday, was a warm day. for the 24 hours leading up to thursday morning the temps were high 30s to 40s. it was clear from the weather forecasts that we were getting rain non-freezing ground. there must be repercussions for closing school for fraudulent purposes.

HAHAHAHAHA.

Guess what? A professional meteorologist disagrees. The decision to close at the time it was made was definitely the wrong call.

Don’t be too hard on schools

On social media, I’ve seen schools become the target of much criticism for closing and delaying when there was no snow. I don’t think the criticism is warranted.

Schools were in a no-win situation. Had they opened and the burst of snow materialized, they would have potentially endangered students and staff. While learning is lost and parents are inconvenienced when schools needlessly close, schools shouldn’t be blamed for erring on the side of caution given a forecast even the best meteorologists can’t pin down.

The very next paragraph is:

Yes, you could argue schools that closed could’ve gone with a two-hour delay and then reassessed. I probably would have recommended that approach; however as the forecast was a moving target, it’s not clear that would have led to better decisions.

Yeah no

Seriously, why not? HS kids have lost so much instruction time and kids have major end of quarter tests today. If 16 schools are virtual anyway with no advanced notice, there is ZERO reason MCPS as a whole cannot be virtual today.

You are kidding right? Ask your HS student what they think of virtual. Most kids will log on but play games on the side, etc. Even college kids hate virtual.

News flash: Not all kids are like your kid. Our teen (and preteen) and their friends are fine with temporary virtual.

Because they get to play games all day

DP. Get what? How dumb this all is? We’d do something too if our school was closed.
