Fcps isolation policy - when can kids return

Anonymous
So when can the kids with Covid return to school? I'm Confused

"FCPS will adopt the new guidance with one exception:

FCPS will adopt CDC’s recommendation for a five-day period of quarantine for students and staff.
FCPS will adopt CDC’s recommendation for a five-day period of isolation for staff.
FCPS will NOT adopt CDC’s recommendation for isolation for students as we are unable to implement the required physical distancing protocols during meals. FCPS students with COVID- 19 will need to continue to complete a ten-day isolation period.
Return Guidance for Students with COVID-19

Students who are COVID-19 positive are able to return to school when ALL of the following criteria are met:

Student completes at least 10 days of isolation from symptom onset for symptomatic students or 10 days since testing positive (day test administered) for COVID-19 for asymptomatic students; AND
Student is fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication; AND
Student’s symptoms have improved; AND
Student submits the FCPS Isolation Letter with the return date to their attending school"

So if my kid was sick with Covid last week but ten days doesn't end until 1/12. Does my kid need the letter?

Where can I find the isolation letter?

My kid is on a similar timeframe. I just emailed the schools covid coordinator and said that I’d calculated the return date as tomorrow, based on onset of symptoms on 1/1, and asked whether he needed anything to come back. His case was very mild and had a positive home test only, so I had no contact with FCHD and no reason to take him to pediatrician. The school confirmed that I don’t need the “isolation letter” or anything else, just to send him back in after the 10 days.

I sent school an email this morning. Still haven't received isolation letter. I'm sending all 3 back tomorrow.

To be clear... mine we symptomatic on 1/1 as well.

Do I tell FX Health? I tell the school but then what do I need to get back to school and how long do I have to stay out. I am so confused and cannot find the rules anywhere??

The HD doesn’t care about your at home test. Fill out the online attendance form for your school. They will call you if they want more info. Type in something like “Jane tested positive for Covid and will be out of school on …. This will be ten days from when her symptoms began (or the positive test). I will contact yi if there are any changes.”

That’s almost exactly what I sent to the school for my child and they followed up with a phone call, mostly just asking if he was okay and how he was feeling. We weren’t interested in streaming and he contacted his teachers directly since he’s older.

Thanks! I just want to understand. If the at home test comes up positive, we keep her out 10 days? And then she just goes back at day 10 no questions asked?

What do we do if she is sick with no positive test? We just keep her out until she is better - 3, 5, whatever days and send her back, no questions asked?

Really, it’s okay. Tell the school by email or by a phone call that you are keeping them home ten days. Send your kid back after that. There isn’t a form.

The only form I ever had to fill out was when one kid was sent home with symptoms. They gave me a form and I had options and a paper to fill out before returning. When my kids actually had Covid, there was no form and they just needed to stay home the ten days. Someone from the school will contact you for sure if they want more info.

Why would you keep your kid home for 10 days if they test negative? I would just keep them home until they feel better. Specially MS and HS when they can really get behind. 10 days is a LONG time for an AP/Honors class.

Some of you have lost your minds.

+1. If my kids get sick, I will keep them home. I will absolutely not be testing them. Testing and isolating for ten days for a cold is insane.

Because the child who catches it from your child may have worse symptoms? Selfish pricks.

Did you tell the school your kid had Covid? If not, send him back on Wednesday without a letter.

Stay home for 10 days since having symptoms. Just do the right thing. If kid is better at 10 days, send them to school. If they still are sick, stay home.

I don’t think it is confusing.

That's true of the cold, flu, strep, RSV and every other virus that we treat the same way. Stay home if you are sick, go back when you are well.

Quarantine rules — for those who are close contacts.

Isolation rules for those who have positive tests.

Two different words for two different conditions.

Not if they are vaccinated. I agree with PP's. There is no incentive to test.
