I am confused as is probably everyone dealing with Covid. Whole house started symptoms on 1/1. One member of house took at home test 1/6 positive. Assume everyone else is positive. Trying to get at home tests done tonight. Assume will be positive. The FCPS policy seems to indicate return to school is based on 10 days from Symptoms. Is this correct? |
If you are vaccinated, it’s five days from the start of symptoms which was 1/1. |
Home test should be negative if not today then soon. |
There was an earlier thread about a family with symptoms on the same day. Find that thread. |
No, that’s not FCPS policy yet. |
10 days from start of symptoms. |
That's what the CDC says. CDC trumps FCPS. |
I’m in the same boat. My child started showing symptoms on the 1st also. I feel like we are on our own piecing together guidance. This was in an email that I received over winter break from my older child’s middle school, so I’m sort of going with this (although the county is no longer providing clearance letters, and I’m not taking my kid to the doctor for clearance):
“What if my child recently tested positive for COVID? When can they return to school? At this time, the return to school policy is still the same even if they are vaccinated: A student must stay out of school for 10 days beginning from the start of their symptoms or when they tested positive. If someone starts showing COVID symptoms on January 1, and tests positive, they can return on January 11. They will need a note from either the Fairfax County Health Department OR their healthcare provider that clears their return to school. If FCPS changes this policy, we will communicate that change.” |
Agree^^, but FCPS refuses to align themselves with CDC and make these unreasonable guidelines. It's really frustrating. |
CDC policy also requires them to wear a well fitting mask for the whole time for days 6-10. If your kid can attend school all day without removing their mask (aka no eating lunch and no taking it off to drink water), then maybe. But that is the reason most schools haven't adopted the cdc policy. It works for getting adults back to work but is stupid for schools. |
It’s ten days from the start of symptoms. That would be the 11th or 12th for you, if they are completely better. My kid was positive over break and honestly, I don’t know if the first day of symptoms was the 29th, 30th or 31st. Hard to tell. I emailed and said he has Covid over the break and would be returning Monday. They replied that was fine and didn’t ask for specific dates, a test or letter.
To the rest of you, please don’t rush the 5 days. That change was to keep society going with our workforce for asymptotic cases. |
Our school Sent this.
Students who are COVID-19 positive are able to return to school when all of the following criteria is met: Student completes at least ten (10) days of isolation from symptom onset for symptomatic students or 10 days since tested for COVID for asymptomatic students; AND Student is fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication; AND The student’s symptoms have improved; AND Student submits the FCPS Isolation Letter with the return date to their attending school Wtf is the FCPS Isolation Letter? |
You school can get it to you if you can’t find it online. |
Nope. |
THIS. The CDC policy is not a free for all after 5 days, they even want you wearing mask in your own house. Keep your covid cases at home for 10 days and get over it, don't have the right to infect everyone else. |
