Fcps isolation policy - when can kids return

The obvious solution is just not to test.

Agree. If your kid is sick, keep him home but do NOT test. Send him back when he is feeling better, which is when he won’t be contagious anymore any way.

I was thinking of not testing but I really need to know if my kid had covid. There may be long term implications like diabetes that he needs to be screened for.
I understand not wanting to test because it is disruptive. But it is the right thing to do. 2 of 3 kids are positive. Waiting on pcr test for the 3rd. Isolation is almost over anyway so we went ahead on pcr. If he is negative, back he goes to school. Positive then we have the information.

It’s not that complicated. It just takes actually reading the guidance that was sent home. I would assume that people on DCUM read/speak English fairly fluently and are college educated/have decent reading comprehension. You are just whining because you are “over it” at this point and want someone to blame.
I AM worried about how non-native English speaking parents will access this information. I think FCPS should code their website so that you use drop downs to describe your situation/put in symptom start date, and it tells you when to return to school. Now that FCHD is not doing clearance letters, people will screw up the dates. And yes, if your kid is showing symptoms, test them. I spent some time refreshing on Walmarts website and was able to get some tests for this purpose. If you stop whining on here and do something about your situation, this wouldnt be that hard.

i will be curious to see how availability of tests impacts this as well. If kids have symptoms, but there are no available tests until days out-what is the point? I feel like when kids return, tons of kids will be needing to get tested.

Not if you're positive but yes if you're a close contact, supposodly.

Yes. If your vaccinated and exposed but not positive the health department confirms your vaccination status and you go back. If you have Covid you have to stay home. This isn’t complicated people!

Isn’t it if you are vaccinated, exposed and not symptomatic?

Yes. Omg— read! If you are sick stay home, that isn’t new.

It doesn’t matter if he has covid or not. If he gets diabetes, you treat the diabetes.

Only unvaccinated kids will need tests. Vaccinated kids will not need any tests. If they are sick, they just stay home until they feel better. If they aren’t sick, they don’t test.

Now that Covid has evolved to be an ordinary cold, we should be extra scared and test everyone.

Thanks for generalization and spreading misinformation. My DC did NOT have an ordinary cold.

Some colds are worse than others. Had a bad one myself recently and so did one of my kids.

We should have shut down schools in the hope of preventing that.

Same day testing has tons of appointments. Capitol Hill Location. It sucks to have to drive, but is an option.

The email today says one of the four things needed is “Student submits the FCPS Isolation Letter with the return date to their attending school” - what is this isolation letter and how do I get one for my kid?

So can I keep my kid home with any slight cold I see in my family. Any proof I need to show to the teacher that my family is in isolation. It’s going to be a confusing winter quarter.

Why do you need to be “in isolation” for a cold? Why do you need to prove you have a cold?

Some of you have lost your minds.

This doesn’t apply if your student was I’ll over Wintet Break and or last week.

From now on, FCPS is returning to a letter that will be sent home with your student should they leave school with CLI.
